Classes at NNYLN

The month of December is busy at NNYLN, with the following classes being offered. Click on the class title for information and registration.

New York State Historic Newspapers Class (Dec 1, 8, 10, 15, 22)

New York Heritage and ContentDM Class (Dec 10)

The classes are at 1pm at the NNYLN. They are free but registration is required.

NCLS New York State Historic Newspaper Class

NNYLN staff will be conducting a class on how to search the new NYS Historic Newspapers website at the North Country Library System Service Center on December 2nd from 10:30am - 12:00 pm. There will be video simulcasts at Postdam and Oswego Public Libraries.

Assessing Risk to Digital Assets

Planning for the care of digital collections and services in the case of disaster is as important as planning for the care of analog collections, but often these intangible objects receive less attention. This webinar introduces the methods and tools for assessing and mitigating likely risks to digital materials within the context of responsible digital preservation practices, as well as ways to integrate response and recovery for digital collections into an institutional disaster plan.

Emma Flower's Signed Childhood Biography at Flower Memorial Library

The Roswell P. Flower Memorial Library is a place in tribute to Emma Flower Taylor, and now it is home to a book written and signed by her. The autobiography is 27 pages, titled "In the Olden Days" and was donated by Watertown resident Doris L. Bennett.

The book has Emma Taylor's signature and a message, "Presented to Mary, Sara and Evelyn Goodale, 259 Mullin Street."

The signed copy will be placed in a case near the entrance to Flower Memorial Library with a collection of other Flower and Taylor artifacts.

Mexico Public Library Receives $50,000 in Special Funding

Senator Patty Ritchie's office announced that as part of the $148,000 in special funding that the senator has secured for libraries in her district, Mexico Public Library will receive $50,000.

CEFLS Literary Luncheon a Success

The Literary Luncheon hosted by CEFLS with special guest author Eva Stachniak was a great success. The luncheon was well attended and had centerpieces on the tables created by 7th grade students of Chazy Central Rural School.
