Liz’s mother, Mrs Margot Watson (1951), attended PLC and Mrs Watson sent her three daughters to PLC after her and they, in turn, sent their five daughters to PLC. Liz herself was Head Prefect at PLC in 1978 and both of Liz’s daughters, Sophie and Gabrielle, had the honour of being Arts Captain in their respective final year. Her father, Mr Jeff Langdon, was Chair of the PLC Council from 1989 – 1991. After graduating from PLC, Liz’s love of the School continued, and she took an active role in the Old Collegians’ Association and she was President prior to accepting the role of Director of Boarding in 2013. Over the past eight years, Liz has been an excellent leader of both the boarders and staff in the Boarding House. She has enabled PLC to gain the reputation as one of the top boarding schools for girls in WA, with the student numbers increasing by over 50 students under Liz’s leadership. She has always wanted the best for the students in her care and works tirelessly to achieve this. One of her greatest strengths is her sense of community and she has made her mark in rural leadership in WA. After eight years at the helm, and often working seven days a week, she believes it is time to enjoy a well-earned rest before she decides to pursue new directions. We will all miss the leadership qualities Liz has displayed in her role and we hope to welcome yet another generation of Liz's well-loved family to PLC in the future. - Mrs Chris Robinson - Deputy Principal Limitless lifeThe ordinary goldfish, Carassius Auratus Auratus, is a hardy fish that many of us might have kept as a pet at some stage. Some people may suggest that they are creatures of limited brain power and never get bored, as they forget everything after three seconds. Goldfish are incredibly adaptable and could survive or even thrive in a bowl, a cold-water aquarium, or an outside pond. They seem to be happy if kept solitary or with other fish, and they aren’t fussy eaters either and would happily enjoy whatever food is presented (well, within reason). In 2020, we learned that we should be more adaptable especially when circumstances are beyond our control. We managed COVID-19 restrictions, family challenges, remote learning and working, economic uncertainty, and other challenges. Despite this, we often surprised ourselves or others around us with our resilience. If you keep a goldfish in a small bowl, they will remain small and if you keep a goldfish in a big pond, their body will grow bigger. Just as the size of a goldfish is determined by the size of the container, our growth and the growth of our children may be relative to our imagination and to what extent we embrace opportunities. May we remain open to the possibilities that cross our paths and be eager to pounce on opportunities as they present themselves. May we also remain resilient and adaptable, thankful for every day, and eager to start afresh rather than dwelling on the past. - Rev Manie Strydom, Chaplain Instrumental and Vocal Music Lessons 2021All instrumental and vocal music lessons will conclude tomorrow, Friday 27 November.
