A Note From Our Principal

Dear OLV Family,

Our 2020-2021 school year is off and running! I am proud to say that OLV was the first Catholic school in the diocese to open. Our school and church staff--- as well as an army of high school volunteers--- spent countless hours in preparation mode readying the building for the return of our students.

Meet Our New
Spanish Teacher!

¡Hola! My name is Alex Castre and I am the newest member of the OLV family! I have been a part of the Catholic school system since I was 4 years old as I attended Saint Rose Academy and then John Carroll (class of 2014). After high school, I moved on to Auburn University (WAR EAGLE!) where I graduated in 2018 with my B.A. in Psychology and Spanish. This past May, I graduated with my Master's degree in Hispanic Studies from Auburn, while also teaching Spanish 101 to Auburn students as part of the program. Both of my parents were born in Lima, Peru so I grew up bilingual. I am so thankful that I was encouraged to continue my career with the Spanish language as it has opened new doors for me -- including the opportunity to serve as OLV's new Spanish teacher. My intention is for my students to learn about the Spanish language and culture in a fun and exciting way! ¡Adios!

News From Our Library

Due to safety guidelines during this time, only students in grades 6-8 will be able to enter our physical OLV Library. All students will still have weekly library lessons in the classroom and the ability to check out books from our library. Check out services will look a little different for the time being, but there are a few ways that students can get the books they want. Click on the button for more information.

OLV Covid Protocol

Our COVID Protocol has been in action since we opened our doors and has been working to keep our school open. You may review the plan here.

The third grade class is continuing their annual support of the Ronald McDonald House. Each year we collect pop tabs & travel-size toiletries for this project. The pop tabs are recycled and these funds go into the annual budget, usually adding around $20,000 a year. This enables families to stay there for free while their children are in the hospital. The travel-size toiletries help those families with the little things that may have been forgotten at home in their rush to get their child to UAB or Children's Hospital.  We collect these all year long and all donations from the entire school are welcomed. Usually in the springtime we will take everything down to the House so that the 3rd graders can see what their donations have done to help the families who stay there. All donations can be turned in to Mrs. Williamson or Ms. Martinez. If you've been saving items over the summer you can go ahead and turn them in. Thanks for your support.
