Fast Track
During the implementation of the Food Act 2014, we had a fast track recognition process for experienced verifiers to move into National Programme verification.
As soon as you and your agency have met all the requirements, we will close out some of your recognition conditions and renew your recognition for 3 years.
CPD Programme
On 31 July, we hosted a “soft” release of the new Continuing Professional Development programme in Auckland. The implementation date is 1 October, 2019.

Food Tools Trio
In Nelson on 19 July, Minister for Food Safety Hon Damien O’Connor launched three new tools to make it faster, easier and more affordable for food businesses to follow the rules and keep consumers safe – Remote Verification (for remote food businesses), My Food Rules (online business registration tool) and My Food Plan (Custom Food Control Plan).

Using My Food Rules & My Food Plan
Now that My Food Rules is live, some businesses may need to check they are under the correct Risk-Based Measure (RBM). If councils, verifiers, food safety officers, or consultants are aware of food businesses that may have registered under an incorrect RBM, please direct the business to My Food Rules. This tool will determine their correct RBM, who they need to register with, and who can verify their business. Read more.

New Zealand Food Safety Lecture Series
We are hosting a series of four free lectures around the country. Topics include: Responding to increasing challenges in NZ's food safety system (Auckland, 5 September); Building confidence in NZ's food system (Auckland, 23 September); Kiwis benefiting from food technology (Christchurch, October); and Growing influence on the world food stage (Wellington, October). New Zealand Food Safety Summit
The upcoming New Zealand Food Safety Summit – 9-10 December in Auckland – will focus on domestic and international food safety issues and opportunities. The Summit will feature internationally-renowned food safety experts and notable food industry professionals. Buddy Magazine – 2nd Edition
We’re finalising the second edition of the Food Safety Buddy magazine. The first edition was distributed in 2018-9 as part of the Food Safety Toolkit to registered Simply Safe & Suitable food businesses and Territorial Authorities. This latest issue of Buddy will contain practical and informative tips about staff training and creating a positive food safety culture. Read more.

Remote Verification Service
We’re thrilled that the Remote Verification service is now available! This service is currently offered as an option to National Programme businesses which meet a range of criteria, including having access to the technology and being based some distance from a verifier. Titiro Topics Order Change
We’ve made an update to Titiro, MPI's online verification and enforcement outcome recording system. Titiro has changed the order of verification topics to match MPI's verification report template provided to verifiers. This change was requested when Titiro first went live. Read more.
New Food Importer Registration
We’ve developed a new web page with information on how to Register as a Food Importer under the Food Act 2014. Anyone importing food into New Zealand for sale or export is required to be registered with MPI. This new page explains the process to register and the obligations of a food importer to ensure food is safe and suitable. Read more.
Where to Find Allergy Info
In the last fortnight, we’ve had an increase in requests for food safety resources about allergies. This is a reminder that we have a number of allergy-aware posters that can be downloaded from Food Safety Toolkit, under Toolkit posters.
