In this issue you can read about our win as Top Community Facility in the NZTA Favourite Places to Ride competition, get your kids booked in to one of our July school holiday sessions, rally up your work colleagues for your last chance to enter an Italian Pursuit Team in the BNZ Corporate Challenge, learn about two time Olympian Jaime Nielsen's latest challenge and take a quick look at how the infield of the Avantidrome transforms into a fab function space! We're gearing up to host to the North Island Secondary Schools Track Championships this coming Sunday & Monday. Racing starts 6pm Sunday and 9am Monday. It's free entry for spectators so bring the family and come and join us - what a great way to start the school holidays! And because no two days are ever the same here at the Avantidrome, the Hot Spring Spas Expo will be set up in the infield from Thursday 13th to Sunday 16th July. There's absolutely no change to our normal track programme during that time so don't be a stranger - see you here. JULY SCHOOL HOLIDAY SESSIONSWith the school holidays right upon us we've only got a few spots left in our popular holiday sessions. Our Level 2 programme, best suited for those who have already completed their accreditation, is running across both weeks and our Level 1 programme for those just starting out will run in the second week only (due to demand on our track and infield space in week 1 of the holidays). ITALIAN PURSUIT ENTRIES CLOSE 14 JULYThe BNZ Corporate Challenge is the perfect team challenge and a great opportunity for a truly unique team building experience. The popular Italian Pursuit category is ideal for new riders, including those who have never even stepped inside a velodrome before! With 8 weeks training included in the entry fee, coached by an accredited Avantidrome coach you'll be on your way in no time. Entries close next week, and training starts 30th July so rally your team mates and take up the challenge! JAIME NIELSEN'S HOUR RECORDMark this on your calendar and come and support two time Olympian Jaime Nielsen in her attempt to set a New Zealand Hour Track Record for women. It’s happening here at the Avantidrome Friday 21st July 6-7pm. All welcome – a gold coin donation appreciated for Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari; Jaime’s chosen cause. The hour record is believed to be one of the most testing events on the track. Passionate about testing her limits, that’s why Jaime’s taking it on and training is now in full swing. Photo credit: Dianne Manson/Cycling New Zealand SPECIALIST ENDURANCE TRAININGWe're introducing new Specialist Endurance training sessions to our programme starting Sunday the 23rd of July, 3.30pm. These are sessions designed to practice the timed Endurance events and will have an Avantidrome coach provided. The sessions will also include Time Trial, Individual and Team Pursuit training and is 1.5 hours long. You also have the option to bring your own personal coach if you'd like. If you are looking at improving your timed events these are the sessions for you. Book in online on phone reception on 07 823 1421.
