Working in our non-air conditioned office has certainly tested our team's resilience but it is worth it to finally get our Summer Courses at Chelsea Academy underway :D Our Role Models have been great this week, making sure all of the children partaking are getting as much time as possible outside and drinking lots of water. Use the links below to find out what courses are coming up in the next few weeks. The Role Models team; Hugo, Louise, Sophie, Emily, Darcey, Francesca and Alexandra
EDUCATION IN THE NEWS Character education: what role should schools play? Successive education secretaries have emphasised the importance of character education, but what is schools’ role in this? Boris Johnson as PM: What can schools expect? Here, Schools Week outlines four education developments schools can expect once he enters office. HAPPY HIGHLIGHTS This week we have a very special Happy Highlight! One of our Role Models, Ed Kirwan (who is working on our Collaboration Course right now!) is involved in running the Homeless World Cup. Each year, homeless people who were invisible on the streets become heroes on the pitch, standing proud representing their country as their lives are changed forever. We think this is a fantastic cause and some of the team are even going to watch the final! CHARACTER EDUCATION CONFERENCE Earlier this month Laina was flying the Role Models flag at the 2019 ACE (Association for Character Education) Annual Conference. We were really honoured to be invited to run a workshop on ‘Empathy: What? Why? How?’ for our peers. Just like on our courses, the adults were up on their feet making a group empathy map to help them visualise others attitudes and behaviours. HEAR FROM THE CHILDREN Take a look at some of the lovely letters that the children write to themselves at the end of our courses! We send these back to the children about two weeks after the course so that they are reminded of all of the great work that they did and the skills that they learned. A WONDERFUL PARTNERSHIP As part of our commitment to get as many children as possible to benefit from our work in developing essential life skills, for every ten bookings, we offer a funded place on one of our courses. We are incredibly excited to collaborate with ARK Academy schools on this and to offer a number of their children a sponsored place on one of our Life Skills Courses taking place over the summer. This week we have welcomed the first pupils from Ark Oval Primary School and it has been a joy to see new friends being made and key Life Skills being developed! Thanks to you, we are helping thousands of children worldwide become more confident individuals. |
