Rārangi take – AgendaRegional Council are privileged to be invited to hold our Komiti Māori hui at Pukehina Marae of Ngāti Whakahemo. Presentations from local hapū and iwi - Ngāti Whakahemo (host hapū)
will share key issues and opportunities for the iwi and community
- Ngāi te Rangi will share their environment-enhancing initiatives including building iwi and hapu capacity through Resource Management Act (RMA) workshops, rangatahi development, and access to Council’s vessel 'Taniwha'.

Tribute to former BOPRC Councillor, Te Awanuiarangi (Awanui) BlackTauranga artist Graham 'Mr G' Hoete completed a mural in January this year, honouring the late Te Awanuiarangi (Awanui) Black on the rear wall of the Event Cinema at Mount Maunganui. The mural features the Pukehinahina flag which flew over the Gate Pa battlefield when Maori warriors repulsed an attack by English soldiers in 1864. Awanui composed the haka for the 150th anniversary commemorations of the Battle of
Gate Pa in 2014. The mural, which can viewed from Bounty Lane, is seen here as pictured with current 2018 Bay of Plenty Regional Council Summer Intern and god-daughter of Mr Black, Rangipare Ngaropo.
He Toka Tumoana ScholarshipCloses 1 March 2018He Toka Tūmoana Scholarship for tertiary students has been created to commemorate the late Councillor Awanuiarangi Black, an avid supporter of environment and restoration projects, research and education. Two scholarships valued at $5000 each will be awarded in 2018. To apply, applicants must complete all sections of the application form and either post, email or drop it off at any of our offices. Green Gold for Katikati Kindergarten
