Finalists announced for IAB Awards

The finalists for the IAB awards have been announced. Congratulations to everyone who was nominated or who entered and to those who have been shortlisted. A full list of the finalists can be found here: https://www.iab.org.uk/awards/shortlisted-nominees/.

The winners will be announced during an awards reception at the House of Commons on Thursday 6th December. During the event the achievements of the winners of our top centre awards will also be celebrated.

Annual membership renewal notices sent
 

We are now inviting members to renew their professional membership for 2019 and the renewal notices have been sent out.  If you haven’t yet received this please let us know as soon as possible so we can resend the notice to you.

Could you be an IAB Council Member?
 

The IAB is accepting applications and enquiries from members who are interested in joining the IAB Council. The IAB is a Company Limited by Guarantee and the Council is our Board of Directors. They are involved in key decisions about the future of the IAB and how we work to provide the best support to bookkeepers and continue to raise awareness and raise the standards of the bookkeeping profession. Elections take place at the AGM in June each year.

The Bookkeepers Alliance announce new meeting dates
 

The Bookkeepers Alliance have announced further dates for their Bookkeepers Coffee Club Meetings. IAB members are invited to attend these meetings which are informal gatherings of bookkeepers and they provide an excellent opportunity for networking. You don’t need to pay to attend, and will just need to pay for any refreshments you have. These meetings are for both employed and self-employed bookkeepers. The Bookkeepers Alliance is a membership organisation providing support to those working in the bookkeeping sector.

Now that HMRC has entered the public beta element of the Making Tax Digital pilot for VAT they have begun to send letters to businesses impacted by the changes to inform them of their obligations.

Summary of the Budget 29 October 2018
 

Chancellor Philip Hammond kicked off his Autumn Budget – the first on a Monday since 1962 – by announcing a “new chapter in the country’s economic future”. He hailed his Budget as signalling the “era of austerity finally coming to an end”.
