Rescues up as NSW Lifesavers Lower the FlagsNSW volunteer surf lifesavers lowered the red and yellow flags for the final time for the 2020/21 season on Sunday. Mass Rescue at Tourist Hot Spot Wins AwardA mass rescue at dusk on 18 January where the lives of seven young people were saved, has earned Adam Turner the NSW Rescue of the Month award. Adam was at the beach that evening enjoying an early evening body surf. He had just exited the water at about 7pm when he saw seven young adults who were from south-western Sydney, out in the surf. 2021 NSW Lifesaving Development CampIn April, Surf Life Saving NSW held its first Lifesaving Development Camp for surf lifesavers aged 16-21 years. The live-in program focused on developing and enhancing the knowledge and skills of young people, while at the same time preparing them to take on more responsibility in their patrol teams, their own clubs, and the wider community. Junior Lifesavers of the Year AnnouncedThe 2021 Junior Lifesavers of the Year from every Surf Life Saving Branch in NSW came together in Sydney this month to challenge themselves and learn new skills. Of the 22 young participants, the overall NSW Junior Lifesaver of the Year (JLOTY) award was presented to Taylah Moffitt from Kempsey Crescent Head SLSC and Vivek Sirkari from Warriewood SLSC. NSW Claims 223 Australian Titles in 2021From board riding to surf boats, the beach track, water arenas and lifesaving events, NSW athletes have taken centre stage at the 2021 Australian Championships winning almost half the Australian Titles on offer.
