This year the SLSNSW Media Team aims to pre-record a number of races to showcase over the coming weeks including as part of the live stream. New Woolgoolga Surf Life Saving Club - Surf Club Facility ProgramCOVID-19 didn't stop the completion of the long-awaited Woolgoolga Surf Life Saving Club. President Les Pepper was proud as punch when he was given the go-ahead to officially open his new club on the first day of the season for the raising of the flags ceremony in September. The $4M facility was funded from a mix of grants from Federal, State and Local Governments. Applications for the 2020/21 NSW Surf Club Facility Program close next Wednesday 3 March. Nipper Heroes Awarded NSW Rescue of the MonthA group of surf lifesavers from The Lakes Surf Life Saving Club, including four members of a school-based Nippers training program, saved a large group of people caught in a rip at Soldiers Beach and have been awarded SLSNSW Rescue of the Month for November. SLSA Welcomes Australian Government’s Funding Boost for Surf Clubs NationallyOn Saturday the Australian Government announced that an additional $3.1 million in funding would be used to protect beachgoers and $6.6 million to improve volunteer lifesaving skills across the country. 2020/21 Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman SeriesGood luck to our elite NSW Iron athletes heading back to Kingscliff Beach this weekend for the remaining rounds of the 2020/21 Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series. Australian Institute of Disaster Resilience (AIDR) Volunteer Leadership ProgramApplications are now open for the Volunteer Leadership Program (VLP) that equips emergency sector volunteers with the skills and confidence to grow as leaders. This is a free program that will be run later this year, dates are available on the AIDR website. All applications will need an organisational endorsement, which can be obtained by emailing SLSNSW Membership Manager, Claire Bevis. Lifesavers With Pride 2021 Proud Surf ClubsLifesavers with Pride will be taking Mardi Gras down to the beaches this weekend. With the support of Mardi Gras, Surf Life Saving Sydney Branch and SLSNSW, Bronte, Tamarama, Coogee, Bondi and North Bondi beaches will get an extra splash of colour, with patrol teams decorating their tents and a paddle out event at Bronte and Tamarama. The GSU is a national grant research and writing support unit for SLS entities across Australia.
