NOTICES:
*Safety of our Students: It is important for the safety of our students and local residents that all parents who drive to school in the mornings and afternoons are adhering to the road rules. We ask you all to consider the following: - Do not speed on our surrounding roads as many families walk to and from school and this compromises their
safety.
- Do not park on the zig zag lines at the front of the school as this impacts on our students safely crossing the road.
- Do not park across the driveways of our neighbours, as this will disrupt access to their private property. As a school we suggest walking or catching public transport to school to where possible. If you have to drive, there is often ample parking spaces a little further away from the school, which may also alleviate the congestion and stress of the morning. We thank you for your cooperation on this matter and your consideration of our local community. **The 2018/2019 Academic Year begins on Monday 10th September 2018.***Shoes and clothing donations please! If you have any shoes/plimsolls/wellies or tights and socks that your child has grown out of, please can you bring them along to the Reception classrooms. Thank you!
****Equipment - Parents please ensure your child comes into school with all the equipment and food they will need for the day. The front office will not be responsible for taking things to classroom as this is disruptive to children's learning.
Community Choir
The next two community choir rehearsals will take place on Friday 8th June and Friday 22nd June, running from 4-5pm. We will be working with instruments as we build towards a fantastic community parade in July. Come along and enjoy the fun! No experience necessary
Maths and Science Week
This week in Reception we have been getting excited about Maths and Science week. In Maths we have been learning a lot about money - the names and values of different coins and how we can combine them to buy bus tickets and items at the shop. For science we have planted our cress seeds and have been observing them closely to see how much they will grow.
Horrible History! This Week in Year 1 we have started to create an informative and exciting book all about medicine inspired by Horrible Histories. We looked at the different types of writing we could find inside the books and started planning our own. We created multiple choice quizzes and tried to hide the real
answer in between some very silly ones! See if you can work out the answer to this question, written by Uma in Pankhurst class:Where did Mary Seacole die?a) In Legolandb) In Spainc) In Paddington, LondonGood luck!
Super StitchersThis week year 2 have been learning how to join materials in different ways. We started by trying out sewing, stapling, gluing and taping and evaluated which methods were best and would be most appropriate for making a stuffed toy. We also spent some time practising the running stitch, whip stitch and the blanket stitch in groups and thinking about which stitches would be best for different parts of a stuffed toy.
A Very Musical Monday On Monday, Year 3 visited the Horniman Museum for the second time this year! This time, the children explored musical instruments from around the world. They took part in an excellent workshop where they learned about how different instruments make sound and got the opportunity to learn how to play them. The museum
also houses an amazing collection of different instruments that the children could view. They took part in a treasure hunt to find specific instruments, including one used for naming ceremonies, and one shaped like a whale! When they weren't exploring instruments, the children also got to enjoy the beautiful grounds of the museum and the plants and animals that live there.
A Celebration of Science and MathsOn Thursday evening, families and friends of School21 Primary School came to join in our maths and science evening. There were a range of experiments and challenges to participate in, from a paper aeroplane flying competition, to constructing
the longest magnetic chain, to making rockets! Children and adults alike showed curiosity, investigative skills and grit. Miss Cross and Mr Livingstone would like to thank everybody who came along for making the evening such a lot of fun.
Water InvestigatorsThis week Year 4 investigated the best material for a waterproof coat and applied their scientific knowledge to plan a fair test. The children worked in teams to test the materials and accurately measure the amount of liquid (if any!) the material let
through.

Moderate GLA Air Quality Alert for School 21 Dear Parents/Carers, As part of the Mayor of London’s drive to increase
air quality in London, schools have received the following guidance: - If at all possible, advise parents not to drive their children to and from school (or students themselves not to drive), as this exacerbates pollution in the school vicinity. Note that pollution levels are often higher inside cars even when the windows are shut.
- For those who continue to drive, ask parents/guardians/students not to idle their engines in the school vicinity.
- For those walking and cycling, try to plan a route to and from school that sticks to side roads or goes through parks or other green areas.
Please
help to increase the air quality in our local area.
