Click here MIHI FROM THE CHAIR | Jamie TuutaTena tātou katoa, I trust you all enjoyed the latest Mutunga magazine featuring our whānau achievements and highlights. In our efforts to enhance the way in which we connect with our whānau, we’re taking it a step further and reaching out to Ngāti Mutunga storytellers and creatives who are keen to become a part of an ecosystem of Ngāti Mutunga content creation. Please get in touch with the office if you or anyone you know might be interested. More details below. You will have also received a special pānui related to the upcoming Strategic Planning Workshop that's being held in Wellington next month. As we review our strategic plan and look to set our priorities for the next five years, we're taking the time to talk to whānau about what matters. Remember to get in touch with us if you would like to participate in this initial workshop. The annual Sir Maui Pomare celebrations were held last month and it’s a wonderful reminder to us all that we have the potential to achieve great things for ourselves and our whānau. Our tupuna such as Sir Maui Pomare and Te Rangi Hiroa were not just role models for our iwi, they also set fine examples for all of Te Ao Māori. We can look to them for inspiration and motivation in all that we do. Ngā manaakitanga, Jamie KAUPAPA NUISTRATEGIC PLANNING WORKSHOP 30th - 31st August, Wellington Next month a two-day workshop involving a diverse mix of 20 iwi members in Wellington will be held so we can gain views, ideas and observations to help shape some themes to build into a new strategic plan for the Rūnanga this year. The plan will help us to set our priorities for the next five years. Following on from this, a number of consultation hui will be held around the country starting in late September where iwi members who attend will have a chance to contribute to the plan and have their say. EXPRESSIONS OF INTERESTS We're looking for a diverse range of uri at the workshop based on age, skills, sex and geographic location to ensure that we capture a wide range of views, therefore not all those who apply will be able to participate. To that end, we're calling for expressions of interest to take part in the workshop. You must be available to travel to Wellington and be prepared to share your thoughts, ideas and aspirations for the iwi. If you are interested and available, email us office@ngatimutunga.iwi.nz with your contact e-mail and cell phone number, and tell us what skills and experience you will be able to contribute. Expressions of interest close on Friday 17th August 2018. Have you updated your contact details? Each month we'll be sharing names of Ngāti Mutunga uri who we no longer have the correct contact details for. So that we can stay connected and keep everyone up to date with what's happening, we need everyone to let us know if they move house or change their email address or phone number. Staying connected means that you can vote on important kaupapa such as trustee elections, and be notified when education grant applications are open or when we have wānanga back home. The whānau listed below are some of those whose mail has been returned to us. If you know where they are or how we can contact them, please let us know. Whānau with surnames beginning with - A

MUTUNGA IN THE SPOTLIGHT Te Waka McLeod - Parenting Place Te Waka Mcleod, Pouwhiringa from Parenting Place presented a video about their 'Building Awesome Whānau' programme at a public hui held earlier this week in Waitara. In less than 24 hours the video was viewed more than 2k times! Wonderful to see our whānau doing such positive mahi out in our communities. Archive NZ finds Te Rangi Hiroa passport pics It's exciting to learn that the passport applications for Te Rangi Hiroa turned uo in the national archives! Radio Waatea reported on the find last week: "Passport application files would not usually be retained as a public archive due to the large number processed every year, but a check of containers marked passport files, turned up paper work on Te Rangi Hiroa of Ngāti Mutunga whakapapa, Sir Edmund Hillary, the 1924 All Blacks Invincibles, former PM Joseph Gordon Coates, women’s health champion Dr Agnes Bennett and a handful of others." Matariki Award Winner and the voice of Gramma Tala on Disney's 'Moana' - Rachel House Meanwhile, House, of Ngāti Mutunga and Ngāi Tahu has been involved in the arts for over 25 years and last year was was honoured with a New Zealand Order of Merit. At the time she said it was great to represent all wāhine Māori. “Any of Taika’s films I’ve really enjoyed all of those characters, he creates really great stroppy wahine which I really love playing.” She was also well remembered following her roles in films such as Boy and "When I go home I'm still boy"
Our Chair Jamie Tuuta was recently interviewed by Dale Husband. The korero was transcribed for the online magazine E-TANGATA. We're exploring the concept of User Generated Content as a means of enabling our whānau to create and share content related to our Ngāti Mutungatanga and that encourages whānau to connect back home and with each other. No matter where in the country, or the world you are, if you’ve got an eye for photography, a way with words, or find posting on social media easy, send us an email to comms@ngatimutunga.iwi.nz or DM us on Facebook. Kapu kawhe... Have you got yours? We love protecting and caring for our taiao! To take our efforts a step further we now have eco-friendly reusable coffee cups! If you haven’t already ordered yours, give us a call at the office. Pouwhakahaere Update Tena koutou katoa! The Rūnanga office has been a hive of activity over the past few weeks as we’ve started work toward planning for our strategic plan review hui coming up later this year. As we mentioned in the Mutunga magazine last month, we’ll be connecting with whānau across the country to find out what’s working and what isn’t, and further understanding aspirations. There are still spaces available to participate in the initial workshop next month in Wellington so please make sure you contact us at the office to express your interest. Ngā mihi, Paul Cummings, Pouwhakahaere If you have any whānau stories you want to share with us please email us at comms@ngatimutunga.iwi.nz |
