Friday 15th January

A message from the Headmistress...

Now that they have had a chance to settle in, I'd just like to say a warm welcome back to Mrs McDermott, who takes over from Mrs Knell-Moore permanently and Mrs Wilson, who takes over from Mrs Fleming for the next two terms while we look for a suitable replacement.  Both are very well known to us at Gateways and I'm very pleased to have them back on board with us!

Thank you to all parents who completed the quick survey last week to gauge demand for a GateFest2.  The response was overwhelmingly positive with over 75% of respondents saying 'Yes please!'. So get the date in your diary - Saturday 2nd July - and hold onto your hats for a great party!

U12 V St Mary's Menston

The U12s played their first league match of the new year. Some girls were new to this team but had an excellent first game.

Player of the match - Penny Leech

Gateways 10-0 St Mary's

U13A v St Mary's Menston

The U13As played a very short game of netball. They played for 14 minutes due to the ball always being at one end of the court.

Player of the match - Jenna Borlant

Gateways 22-0 St Mary's

Seniors v Roundhay

The senior team also played a league match this week against Roundhay. Their opposition were quite tall and so quick passes and moves had to be utilised in the first quarter to allow the shooters opportunities to shoot.

Players of the match - Sofie Woon, Hannah Matharoo and Emma Woolford

Gateways 35-6 Roundhay

Hockey

The U11A team played well against Richmond House and tried to get the ball to wide players. Ellie Buck found lots of space and dribbled with the ball well, scoring an excellent goal, from the top of the D.

Player of the Match - Ellie Buck

U11A 2-8 Richmond House

The U11Bs all played well against Richmond House in hockey on Wednesday despite being defeated. All the girls showed a good level of skill and were able to keep possession of the ball through some good defense.

Player of the Match - Poppy Cavanagh

U11B 1-6 Richmond House

Congratulations Mrs Sharrock!

Mrs Sharrock, School Librarian & Careers Co-ordinator, has successfully completed a Level 6 Diploma in Careers Guidance and Development.

This means that she is now a qualified careers adviser, and is able to extend her role as Careers Coordinator to include in-depth one-to-one guidance for pupils as well as assessing crucial and exciting developments for future Careers provision in school. She will, of course, still be performing all of her Librarian duties as well!

The eighteen month course included investigating a range of guidance theories and applications, analysing client needs, working with other related agencies to improve knowledge and networking opportunities for pupils, organising career-related information and learning programmes, and maintaining development of careers services.

Over the last two years, Careers provision in school has already been enhanced and enlarged with the introduction of one-to-one guidance for all Lower 6 pupils, the establishment of both Year 6 and Year 10 Careers Days, and the introduction of parent mentors for Careers Fairs and activities. Mrs Sharrock is keen to build further on these developments and will be seeking views from parents and pupils later in the year.

Congratulations Mrs Sharrock on a well deserved qualification!
