Taiohi Taiao - Youth Jam 2018Taiohi-Taiao Youth Jam is an annual event that brings together Bay of Plenty secondary students to learn about an issue relevant to the region. It’s delivered by Toi Moana staff and this year we teamed up with Emergency Management Bay of Plenty to teach 43 students from 16 schools about different natural hazards and what they can do to prepare for
them. The students stayed at Ohope Christian Camp for two days and learnt about earthquakes, landslides, tsunami, volcanic eruptions and flooding. Through realistic scenarios the young leaders discovered what they can within their own school environments and lives to ‘Get ready, get thru’ a civil defence emergency.
Maori involvement in pest managementAre you interested in pest management (biosecurity) issues? Māori involvement in biosecurity is an important part of exercising kaitiakitanga, and pest management is a key part of owning or managing land and primary sector businesses. We want to hear what the big pest management concerns are for you, your
whanau/hapū/iwi, your rohe, or your business, and how we can best support ongoing discussion with and involvement of Maori in pest management. We also want to know what methods work best for you to discuss pest management with us; such as through face-to face hui, online forms, teleconferences, written feedback etc. Your input can help shape the development and delivery of our Regional Pest Management Plan (RPMP) which is currently under review, as well as our day-to-day pest management work. The RPMP sets out rules and priorities for pest management in the region and a
revised new RPMP is due to be notified for public submissions by 30 September 2018. To register your interest in pest management and the Regional Pest Management Plan review, please contact Lisa Power by phone 0800 884880 or email Lisa.Power@boprc.govt.nz .
