13th December 2019A Message from the Head...And so we come to the end of another very busy term at Gateways. And what a milestone it marks, seeing as it does, the inclusion of boys into our High School for the first time. There have been many highlights along the way and those have been amply reported in previous newsletters and the recently published Autumn Term 'Heard it through the CherryVine' which I hope you have all enjoyed reading. If you've not yet seen a copy then please click here to request a PDF version. As I indicated last week, we finished the term today having enjoyed another series of festive events this week culminating in the two Carol Services, one of which took place yesterday for Prep Juniors and today for High School. I must pay tribute to Mrs Jennings for an excellent, 'jazzy' Prep experience and Mr Lenihan for simply another fabulous High School event. Please do visit our YouTube channel here for a snapshot of one of the Prep Juniors' pieces (The Bells Ring Out!) and here for a High School clip (Walking in the Air). I would also like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to all of the Gateways staff for their hard work and dedication this term. Each and every one of them makes Gateways such a special place for our pupils to learn and to grow and they deserve my heartfelt thanks. As do you, our parents, for affording us the privilege of teaching and looking after the most precious people in your lives, your children. I hope you all enjoy a fabulous, family Christmas break and I look forward to seeing you again in the New Year. Merry Christmas! - Dr Tracy Johnson - Erratum - apologies to all - a link in last week's newsletter didn't work so please click here if you are interested in joining (or would simply like to find out more about) our Fees Lottery which takes place every term. For an additional £100 on your fees invoice you can be entered into the termly draw to receive a term's tuition for your child for nothing! The odds are excellent ~1:100. Congratulations again to Mr & Mrs Dubose who were this term's winners! Final Festivities at GatewaysThe Sixth Form Panto this year was a resounding success, well-received by both staff and students after lots of hard work from Lower 6. The story revolved around the staff of Gateways going on a trip to Las Vegas to bring Mrs Richmond back after leaving, and included plenty of good-natured teasing of the teachers! There were strong performances from the whole cast, most memorably from Hannah Wilson as Mrs McKeefry and Jenna Borlant as Mr Crosby, providing an excellent half-hour of entertainment for the whole school. I think I speak for the whole of our year when I say we had a fantastic time putting it together and are so glad everyone enjoyed it! - Katie Proctor, L6 pupil - House Quiz answers For those of you who had a go at Mr Crosby's house quiz last week click here for the answers. Gateways Sports Leaders Assist at Local Disability Sports FestivalOn 5th December nine of the Lower 6th attended the West Yorkshire Disability ‘Panathlon’ Games at Huddersfield Leisure Centre. The Sports Leaders qualification is a course that allows pupils to develop fundamental skills that will not only be helpful in the sporting arena, but will also develop generic skills that they can take with them into their chosen career paths. The day itself was a huge success with our pupils playing a huge role in the enjoyment of all the competitors involved. The participants took part in a rotation of four specially adapted games during the morning session before assisting with more traditional relays in the afternoon. Some of our students assisted with the running of the activities whilst the other were charged with making sure that the athletes knew where to be and supported them with their events. All nine of the Gateways pupils involved can be hugely proud of their efforts and we look forward to assisting the Yorkshire Sport Foundation next term in their West Yorkshire events. - Mr Simon Scholfield - Exam preparation We have updated the information on our website for the public examinations in January - please take a look at the following page which contains lots of information for candidates - http://www.gatewaysschool.co.uk/public-examinations-information/ - Mrs Nicky Kelly - Quick Links To Popular ContentArticles from ... |
