JFC Construction Update - Construction Progress - Issue 12 - 25 November 2019 CONSTRUCTION UPDATEHave a read of our construction update to see what been achieved and what is coming up on the Karangahape Road Enhancements project. Ponsonby Road to OverbridgeThe footpath on the corner of Ponsonby Road and the Mobil driveways on Karangahape Road have been poured, and the left hand turn from Ponsonby Road to Karangahape Road has been reopened for vehicles. This week the cycleway from Mobil towards Hereford Street will be laid with asphalt. Drainage works at Hereford Street continues this week - the road layout at the intersection may vary to accommodate this work, but the access exiting Hereford Street to Karangahape Road will remain. The raingarden in the block between Hereford Street and Howe Street is progressing well with the concrete foundation having been poured and the building of the garden wall well underway. When the road was dug up, between Howe Street and the overbridge, a watermain was found in the location the raingarden is to go. Unable to move the watermain, a design solution is expected soon so works can resume. Works on the northern side of the overbridge will mobilise on Friday 29th November 2019. The bus stops in this location will be relocated further along Karangahape Road, outside Blackboard Café. There will be signage to help direct passengers to the temporary bus stop. Raingarden between Hereford Street and Howe Street under construction Symonds Street to Upper Queen StreetWorks have progressed well in this area with the new widened footpath paving largely finished, as well as the traffic island between the road and the cycleway. Over the weekend, the first layer of asphalt was laid on the new cycleway and a large section of the fencing has been removed. Works are now concentrated on the corner of Upper Queen Street and Karangahape Road and include a drainage connection into the carraigeway and the reconstruction of the remaining section of footpath at the corner. Upper Queen Street to Mercury LaneLast week saw significant demolition work with sawcutting and rockbreaking activity. We appreciated your patience while we got on with the work. Drainage investigations within the carriageway have exposed unexpected connections that have been referred back to the engineer. The existing traffic lights at the mid-block crossing have been removed and temporary lights are now operating. Later this week, drainage works are expected to resume.
