JFC Construction Update - Construction Progress - Issue 14 - 2 December 2019 CONSTRUCTION UPDATEHave a read of our construction update to see what has been achieved and what is coming up on the Karangahape Road Enhancements project. Symonds Street to Upper Queen StreetWorks on the corner of Upper Queen Street and Karangahape Road to complete the footpath corner is progressing well. Last week, the team demolished the existing corner and laid the new kerb line and concrete paving base. Paving started this morning, and this week the final layer of asphalt is expected to be laid on the cycleway and footpath along the cemetery. Upper Queen Street to Mercury LaneOur drainage investigations have exposed unexpected connections. Our sequence of works mean we need to get the drainage activities completed before we move onto the next activities. Our engineers are working to resolve this quickly so we can get back underway. We appreciate your support. Hereford Street to OverbridgeThe works in the block between Hereford Street and Howe Street is progressing well. The first stage of landscaping commences in the rain garden this week, along with the installation of the new kerbline. In the section between Howe Street and the overbridge, a watermain has been found in the location the raingarden is to be built. A design solution is expected soon so works can resume. Works on the northern side of the overbridge, expected to have mobilised on Friday, are now planned for later this week. The bus stops in this location will be relocated further along Karangahape Road, outside Blackboard Café. There will be signage to help direct passengers to the temporary bus stop. Ponsonby Road to Hereford StreetOver the last week, more of the new kerb line has been laid towards the corner of Hereford Street and the concrete traffic islands between the road and the cycleway from the Mobil corner towards Hereford Street have been poured. It is expected the cycleway from Mobil towards Hereford Street will be laid with asphalt this week. Night works are expected this week to undertake drainage works across Hereford Street at the Karangahape Road intersection. These works are being undertaken at night to minimise the impact of the required road closure. This work is expected to take up to two nights to complete, starting at 6pm on Monday, 2 December 2019. During the night works, Hereford Street will only be accessible for residents from Hopetoun Street. The intersection will be reopened and available for vehicles during the day. If works cannot be completed in the first two nights, works may continue on Wednesday. When the drainage works are complete across Hereford Street this week, the construction of the raised speed table will commence. During this time, the road layout at the intersection may vary to accommodate the work, but the access exiting Hereford Street to Karangahape Road will remain.
