CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Read our construction update to see what has been achieved and what is coming up on the Karangahape Road Enhancements project. 

 

Symonds Street to Upper Queen Street

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Start installing bike racks and rubbish bins

Upper Queen Street to Mercury Lane 

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Installing the kerbline towards the corner of Mercury Lane 
  • Continuing to pave the tie-in sections from the existing footpath to the new kerbline
  • Excavating and preparing streetlight foundations
  • Paving the traffic island along the cycleway
  • Preparing the cycleway
 

Ponsonby Road to Hereford Street

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • When the first half of the concrete speedtable has cured (see below), the team will begin to construct the remaining half of the speed table at the intersection of Hereford Street and Karangahape Road
 

Hereford Street to Howe Street

Works have progressed well over the last week. The first half of the concrete speedtable and a section of cycleway at the intersection of Hereford Street was poured this morning and will be curing over the next few days.  The traffic lights on the corner of Howe Street were replaced with temporary ones this morning ready for construction on this corner. 

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Hereford Street Corner
    • Pouring the new channel along the footpath and Tesla driveways
    • Preparing the road surface for vehicles 
  • Howe Street Corner
    • Demolition of the carriageway ready for the new kerbline
    • Excavation of a new garden bed on Howe Street
    • This work will be continued during night shifts tonight and tomorrow night.

Howe Street to Overbridge 

Over the weekend another large section of the footpath connecting to the overbridge was poured, and we have widened the available footpath space while we continue construction in the carriageway

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Continuing to install kerblines towards the overbridge
  • Preparing the cycleway
  • Preparing the traffic island along the cycleway

  • Install framing of the new bus stop shelters 

Access

  • Temporary Bus Service Relocation
  • The bus stops in this location have been relocated further along Karangahape Road, outside Blackboard Café.
 

STAGING & LOADING ZONES

Below is a map of the Karangahape Road precinct showing the construction stages, temporary bus stop relocations and loading zones.

The Auckland Transport project team are working closely with their parking enforcement team to monitor locations to ensure they're being correctly used. If you have a request for parking enforcement, please call Auckland Council on 09 301 0101.
