Winter Registration

Destination Exploration

Destination Exploration is very excited for the start of a new semester of amazing science programming! Registration opens on November 15, 2016.

Our Wednesday afternoon iScientist clubs begin February 1 and runs until March 29, 2017. This is an excellent opporunity for participants to engage in hands-on science activities, experiments, and games in a friendly comfortable environment.

Maker Taster club starts February 3 and runs most Friday afternoons until the end of March. This club aims to expose participants to a variety of science and technology activities. Programming, 3D printing, circuit building, coding and much more will be offered!

The All Girls Science club continues with a special event in April for club members only. Check the DE website in the spring for more details. Girls at Gilbert Paterson and G. S. Lakie can sign up for the next session on our website right now!

For February reading week, Destination Exploration will be offering two day camps from February 21 to 24, 2017.

  • Tech Makers camp will have campers participating in technology focused activities.
  • Canadian Celebration & Traditions camp will be great for participants to learn about our amazing country as part of Canada's 150th birthday.

Welcome New Staff!

Staff Pictures

Destination Exploration welcomed several new staff members this fall.

Laura Keffer-Wilkes is our new Program Coordinator, organizing activities and staff for all the STEM outreach programs. She recently graduated with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biosciences (Biochemistry) from the University of Lethbridge and has had a lifelong enjoyment of science and learning. When she's not thinking about or doing science, she is cuddling her two cats.

Breanalee Beer works with our Maker Taster and Boys and Girls Clubs. She is a graduate of the University of Lethbridge with a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences.  She has always had a strong passion for anything science, particularly animal sciences and research. She is also a scout leader for one of the local groups here in Lethbridge. Bree is currently working on her second degree, a Bachelor of Education degree! For fun, she enjoys the outdoors - fishing, hunting, riding her motorcycle, and all sorts of other adventures!

Sydnee Calhoun is in her second year of a Biochemistry degree at the University of Lethbridge. She has always had a passion for science and is happy to be promoting the inclusion of women in STEM. Outside of working with Destination Exploration, she is involved with the iGEM competition, which involves using synthetic biology to solve problems in the world. Sydnee leads the Actua All Girls Science clubs at local schools across Lethbridge.

Emily Felker helps run the iScientist clubs Wednesday afternoons. Currently she is pursuing a B.Sc. in Geography. She loves being outdoors hiking, biking, and playing soccer. She believes science outreach is very important and is excited to be part of DE's team! Her philosophy is that by allowing youth to have hands-on science experience, they will develop the knowledge to solve complex problems and further explore opportunities that they may not have thought possible.
