NEERO 2021 Call for SubmissionsProposal Submission Deadline: November 2, 2020 via OpenConf NEERO 2021 Virtual Conference: April 28 - 30, 2021 "Leveraging Educational Research for the Collective Good in Challenging Times" We call on educational researchers, practitioners, activists, and policy makers, to rise up and leverage their expertise as part of the collective good during these challenging times. NEERO welcomes paper, research-in-progress roundtable, poster, and symposium submissions. NEERO particularly encourages submissions that are aligned with the theme that seek to expand the knowledge base through high quality research for the collective good. NEERO 2021 Call for Reviewers Reviewer Sign-Up Deadline: November 6, 2020 via OpenConf Are you interested in becoming more involved with NEERO? Please consider serving as a reviewer for conference submissions. Reviewers are tasked with reviewing and providing constructive feedback on a handful of proposals during the month of November. NEERO's Commitment to Racial Justice, Inclusivity, and Equity Resources and Links As the Board of the New England Educational Research Organization (NEERO), we are compelled to speak out in response to the murders of Jacob Blake, Daniel Prude, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Rayshard Brooks, and a long list of Black people and people of color whose lives have been cut short by senseless acts of brutality, violence, and racism. New York Times Magazine 1619 Project: The 1619 Project is an ongoing initiative from The New York Times Magazine that began in August 2019, the 400th anniversary of the beginning of American slavery. It aims to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of our national narrative. O'Connor, C. (2020). 2019 Wallace Foundation Distinguished Lecture: Education Research and the Disruption of Racialized Distortions: Establishing a Wide Angle View. Educational Researcher. Given contemporary recognition of how racialized micro-interactions and the embedded distortions of marginalized and minoritized folk compound over time to produce and reify educational stratification and inequality, this article is an opportunity to think more deliberately about how education researchers can better delineate empirically and conceptually the complexity and temporal spread of these micro-moments, their reproductive momentum, and the prospects for disruption. If you have recommendations or resources to share, please contact us. NEERO Awards and Scholarships Fries Award: Nominations due December 1, 2020 Schmitt Award: Nominations due December 1, 2020 New! Charlie DePascale Scholarship NEERO 2021 Virtual Conference will present the following awards and scholarships: Kim Fries Award (Nomination Deadline: December 1, 2020): Established in 2012 in memory of Dr. Kim Fries, the purpose of this award is to recognize the work of NEERO members who have demonstrated distinction in the early part of their professional careers. John Schmitt Award (Nomination Deadline December 1, 2020): This award is presented for outstanding research at the graduate level. NEW! Charlie DePascale Scholarship for Graduate Students: Established in 2020 to celebrate Dr. Charlie DePascale's contributions to NEERO and lifelong commitment to supporting emerging researchers, the Charlie DePascale scholarship will be awarded to two graduate students who actively attend the NEERO 2021 Annual Meeting. Selected individuals will be granted a non-cash award for the conference fee to attend the subsequent Annual Meeting. The NEERO 2020 Award winners will be announced in an upcoming newsletter. Please note there will be no NEERO 2021 Rubovits Award winner, as the NEERO 2020 Conference was cancelled. NEERO Elections Cast your votes by October 1, 2020! All current NEERO members (those who attended the NEERO 2019 conference and/or who were accepted to present at the NEERO 2020 conference) received an electronic link to vote in the elections to revise the NEERO ByLaws and vote on NEERO Board members. The elections will close on October 1, 2020. |
