Principal's Message - Meaghan Cook Planning for Year 12 Term 4 2020 The Department of Education requires the school to continue to provide lessons until the last day of Week 1, Term 4 (Friday 16 October 2020). My expectation is that all Year 12 students attend this week. We wish to advise the Higher School Certificate (HSC) exams commence on Tuesday 20 October 2020 and continue until Wednesday 11 November 2020. Attendance and AbsenteeismThe Public Attendance Act requires each student to be at school each day. If a student is unable to attend, the campus requires that you notify and confirm in writing, the absence, and its cause. This should be done immediately upon the child's return to campus. If a student is absent, parents or carers may be notified by SMS. Where a student is absent for whatever reason(s), it is compulsory for the campus to examine attendance and progress and determine whether the learning requirements have been met. Parents will be notified in advance of our concerns in this matter. The following advice for parents assists in limiting students’ exposure to harmful online content:

HSC written exams guidelines Schools across NSW have received guidelines to support planning for the Higher School Certificate (HSC) written exams that start on 20 October. Year 12 Students COVID-19 Testing If you need to take a COVID-19 test, let the health workers know that you are a HSC student, and your results will be fast-tracked. Share this with friends and family members to spread the word. HSC Study Days Year 12 students Boys gain confidence on Unicycle Mr Godson runs a community program after school for interested community members to learn how to unicycle. Congratulations Max (Port Macquarie Campus) and Jarrod (Westport Campus) who both passed their 10 minute test and get to keep their unicycles! Next test is a 5km ride. Despite only joining the One Wheeled Wackadoos three weeks ago, Max can ride backwards now as well! Well done boys. Hastings Education Fund Calling all golf tragics or anyone dreaming of a free weekend for four at a luxury Hunter Valley resort. Sustainable School Grant Year 7 commenced implementation of their Sustainable School Grant with the first seeds planted today. The student-led program provides the delivery of agriculture to students to enable them to showcase to our community the full life cycle of planting, growing and harvesting. 2021 Instrumental EnsemblesAvailable to public school students in Years 5-12. Interested students are to speak with their Music Teachers before applying.The Arts Unit offers six instrumental ensembles that rehearse on a weekly basis in Lewisham. We have
two wind ensembles, two jazz stage bands, one string ensemble and one symphony orchestra. Our ensembles are open to public school students in years 5-12. Tell Them from Me Student Survey Parent FAQ document for the student survey: Hastings Secondary School, Port Macquarie Campus is delighted this term, that our school like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes.
