GDPR – How much to disclose in your privacy policy
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requires you to disclose certain information to people whose data you collect, use, store or otherwise “process”.
The Regulation does state what does need to be disclosed. However, it isn’t prescriptive, which has led to much confusion as exactly what level of detail to provide in a privacy notice.

Become invaluable to your employer
Making yourself invaluable to your employer can offer so many rewards. When those promotions come around you’ll be first in line. If you need a bit more flexibility around working hours or working from home options you’re much more likely to get them when you ask. And should the worst happen and redundancies loom in your business you’re more likely to be one of the ‘safe’ ones.

HMRC to delay introduction of new digital services for individuals
HMRC has said its switch in focus to Brexit is the main reason why it is to delay plans to introduce more digital services for individuals.
HMRC has admitted it was ‘overly ambitious’ about the number of individuals who would stop contacting the department by phone and post after it introduced digital channels. At the same time, HMRC has been forced to prioritise EU exit work, including a major upgrade to the customs declaration system.

Companies House are warning that some people have received fraudulent emails claiming to be from them. HMRC has also issued a warning about tax refund scams. Criminals have been sending out scam emails and SMS-messages to trick the public into thinking they have received a tax rebate so they hand over their account and personal details.

The Word from Sarah: GDPR…ARRGH!!!
In her regular feature, Sarah Palmer tackles the issues that matter.
So we only have until the 25th May to get all our policies and procedures in place before the new Data Compliance legislation, GDPR, becomes law. The irony that we are all struggling to implement EU legislation in the middle of Brexit negotiations is not lost on me….however, the basic principles are sound and I do agree that we need tighter controls on how our personal data is used.

International - Malaysia to introduce sales and service tax after effectively scrapping GST

The Mahathir Mohamad-led government, which won last week’s general election, said on Wednesday it would lower GST to zero percent from June 1. Ousted leader Najib Razak had introduced the tax in 2015 amid lower oil prices.
