Kāpiti Coast District Council Deputy Mayor Janet Holborow says that the Youth Development Centre is the result of many years’ collaborative vision, planning, and hard work, and is pleased that it is being recognised. “The Council has been a supporter of the Youth Development Centre’s creation since 2013, but its inception was absolutely a youth-led initiative that would never have been realised without the generous support of local businesses and the Kāpiti community. Children under ten are usually contented with their beautiful, colourful symbol drawings and paintings (as we all are!) and are probably best left to pursue those in their own way. At this stage in their development, they are more aware of the shapes and colours and how they fit together than whether their creations look real or not. They are more likely to benefit from art experiences – opportunities to explore different materials and activities that stimulate their inherent creativity. A WINTER WARNING FROM JIMS TEST & TAGComing into the cooler months, now is the time we all look to warm things up in our homes and offices. If you are using an electric heater it is worth knowing that these must not be plugged into a power board/power outlet strip or into an extension cord. Most electric heaters draw much more current than most of the other devices in your home or office. This extra current draw can overload a power board or melt extension leads, either of these can lead to a fire.
