Jeff's NoteHello ,Welcome to the New Year. No more excuses. It's time to tackle those goals that have been haunting you. It can be easy to run head first towards your goals for a couple weeks, but it gets harder. My hope is that through MIT we can help make it a little bit easier. Your coaches and your fellow participants will hold you accountable. Likewise, your coaches and fellow participants will also make this whole process a lot more enjoyable! We have many weeks of training ahead of us. Some will be great. Some may be a bit bumpy. Enjoy the process. Trust the training. Be patient. Change doesn't happen over night, but it does happen. I consider myself exceptionally fortunate that I have hundreds, thousands of you from over the years from which to draw my inspiration. One in particular has stood out as of late. Five years ago, Drew Rohr suffered a back injury that left him immobile for quite some some. Through a relentless pursuit Drew fought back. Not only did he pick himself up and through sheer perseverance begin walking when his doctors argued he might not be able to, but he started training for 5Ks. Then this past October he finished his first half marathon! The story doesn't end there... shortly after his first half Drew was sidelined by yet another injury that kept him off his feet for over 8 weeks. Many may have thrown in the towel. Not Drew. Drew fought back again. All the while he remains positive and is continuing to inspire those around him. You'll see Drew this Saturday as he joins you on the trail to knock out a few miles. Drew is proof that perseverance and determination can push us far beyond our wildest dreams. Drew, thank you for inspiring me to do what I do everyday. The only thing that can stop you is you. Can't stop. Won't stop. See you Saturday! Jeff Henderson Announcements MIT Winter Kickoff Sale Gear up for the season with the best savings of the year for MITers! There's a lot of wisdom and advice out there about how to best dress for the elements. We've condensed it down into this handy article to explain what apparel is best for the elements. Ok, so I know that I need to layer, but why can't I wear a cotton tee from my last 5k? Cotton is an organic fabric that collects and holds on to moisture- and when it does, grows bacteria. That's why it gets heavier and heavier the longer you sweat, and smellier the more you wear it. Technical fabrics, on the other hand, are key to staying warm and dry, because they pull moisture away from your skin and disperse it across its surface in order to more quickly move that moisture to evaporation off the material. This also helps keep you warmer in the winter, as we all know how much colder your body is when wet. Repeat after MIT: Cotton is Rotten! Great! So, what products should I look for to complete my winter running wardrobe? Check out this article about how to dress specifically for cold, colder and coldest winter days!
