Year 0-4 Swim Fun Day

Congratulations to all our swimmers yesterday. It was a day full of fun and it was great to see everyone giving it a go and doing their best. Thank you everyone who came along to support them. Thank you to FOTHS for putting on a delicious lunch for everyone.

Lost Property

We have been advised of property going missing from outside the classrooms. Some of these items have been named swimming bag, togs and towels, and some have been uniform items. The uniform items have not been named so this is very difficult to monitor.

Please name all uniforms clearly and other items being sent to school. If your child brings home someone else's property please return it to the classroom to be returned to the rightful owner.

School Uniforms

Just to remind everyone that the school uniform is the polo shirt, short or skorts and polar fleece jacket. The sports shirts are not to be worn as the day to day uniform; these are for sport events only. If your child is wearing non-uniform item a note with the reason why is to be sent to their teacher.

Blake

In Blake we found a rainbow on the floor. We are inquirers, so we wanted to know more about rainbows.

We looked at the colours and sang the rainbow colours song. We looked at the order of the colours and created a picture of a rainbow with small pieces of paper.

We wondered about rainbows and looked for more. We know that they are in the sky when it rains. We discovered that the light and the rain make a rainbow because the light bends in the water. The light shines through the rain and it makes a rainbow. The light came through the window and the light bent to make the beautiful colours on the floor.

Taylor's Learning

Through Fulton Swim School we have been learning to be risk takers and to try something new even if it gives us butterflies in our tummies. Here is Tyler being courageous and lying on his back by himself. Ka Pai Tyler!

Thank You Fulton Swim School

Fulton Swim School have now completed their lessons with us, it was awesome to see the great progress all students have made. One child went from not being able to leave the side of the pool or go deeper than above her waist to swimming 10 lengths of freestyle. An awesome effort!

If you would like to continue learning the life skill of swimming please check them out at www.fultonswimschool.co.nz

A big thank you to Daniel, Tamsyn and Emer from the staff and students.

Have your Say

Last year the government formed an Independent Task Force to Review the Tomorrow’s Schools system of schooling administration. Tomorrow’s Schools came in to force in 1989 by the Lange-led Labour Government following a report by Brian Picot. Public consultation on the Independent Task Force’s Tomorrow’s Schools Review report, Our Schooling Futures, Stronger Together l Whiria Ngā Kura Tūātinitini, is open until 7 April 2019. This can be done in the following ways:

Survey

An online survey is now open until 31 March for you to provide feedback on the key issues and recommendations in this report. Click here to have your say.

Written Submissions

Submissions can be emailed to tomorrows.schools@education.govt.nz

Freepost postcards will also be available at the public consultation meetings for anyone who wants to briefly have their say on a recommendation or the full report.

Oral Submissions

A free 0800 number for oral submissions is available to leave your thoughts on the future of our schooling system. Call 0800 FOR TSR (0800 367 877) to leave a message.

Public consultation meetings

Taskforce-led regional consultation meetings will take place from 14 February 2019. The table below provides details of the locations, dates and times of these meetings. A list of all the events open for registration is also available here.

The specific venues for these meetings are in the process of being finalised – keep an eye out here for updates and registration information. Registration for meetings is not compulsory but is appreciated for venue and logistics purposes.

The closest meeting for Te Hihi is at Papatoetoe High School on Wednesday 20 March at either 4:00 - 6:00 pm or 7:00 - 9:00 pm

Hear the other side

National’s Education Spokesperson, Hon Nikki Kaye is holding over 40 public meetings throughout New Zealand to listen to parents’ and teachers’ views on issues in education. She will be holding a meeting at Papakura High School at 4pm on Friday, 22nd March.

The meetings will have a focus on the Tomorrow’s Schools proposals.  The meetings will provide factual information about the proposals as well as seeking feedback. Proposals by the taskforce include changes to governance, learning support, and enrolment schemes. Concern has been expressed about the creation of approximately 20 new Crown entities called Education Hubs, which would transfer responsibilities from parents to officials and potentially disempower parents. However, there is agreement with the taskforce that there’s a need to improve governance and collaboration in our education system and there are some positive aspects of the report in areas like learning support.
