Eye Clinic Services No Images? Click here New SLT Midland Eye is now offering Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) to enhance our treatment options for Glaucoma. Mr Thomas Ressiniotis, Consultant Ophthalmologist, commented: “The results of a pioneering clinical study conducted by Moorfields Hospital called LIGHT (Laser in Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension Trial) published in March 2019 indicated that laser-based treatment in newly diagnosed cases is more successful than the traditional intraocular pressure lowering eye drops." This study demonstrated that for 75% of new patients the laser can deliver ‘drop-free’ intraocular pressure control over 36 months with very few if any side-effects. This is achieved by the laser stimulating the body’s own healing response. In effect, the laser is absorbed by pigmented cells in the eye which improves the flow of fluid leading to a reduction in the pressure on the eye. Find out more on the study.
Treatments for Dry Eye At Midland Eye we are always looking at the latest treatments and advances in technology to offer our patients the very best treatment options. Our latest treatment for dry eye syndrome is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy. IPL is a painless procedure and each treatment only takes a few minutes. A thin layer of cooling gel is applied to the treatment area followed by a small handheld device used to administer pulses of light to the eyelids and surrounding area. The stimulation leads to the meibomian glands returning to their normal function in a short time following the treatment. Three sessions are normally recommended. Other treatments include lubricating drops or artificial tears.
