Executive Headteacher: Mr Peter Hyman Primary NewsletterDates for your Diary
Notices: We have a lot of information in this weeks newsletter so please read thoroughly.*We are disappointed to say that despite several notices, some of our parents are still not following the "no parking" zig-zag signs outside the school premises. We are now in the process of working with the local authority to ensure that parking laws are adhered to. Parking illegally is not only against the law, but also causes a health and safety hazard for our parents and especially our children. Please keep them safe! **Children (and parents/carers) MUST NOT ride scooters on school premises. This poses a threat for themselves and for parents and children in the area. ***Parents please ensure your child comes into school with all the equipment and food they will need for the day. The front office will not be responsible for taking things to classroom as this is disruptive to children's learning. Eye SpyThis week, the Year 4 children took their 'How We See Things' project to the next level when they dissected eyeballs! The children identified the different parts of the eye using scientific equipment to reveal parts of the eye such as the optical nerve, the lens and the pupil. The children were fantastic as they took part in an activity where they had to be precise, observant and (unbelievably) not squeamish at all! Attendance · For absences between 1 – 3 days: a daily telephone call or an e-mail to the school: attendance@school21.org.uk from parents/carers before 8:30am stating student’s name, class, year group and reason for your child's absence (please only use your child's initials in the subject of any email). · For absences between 4 – 5 days we will require letter or proof of medication with an explanation on or before the child’s return to school. · For absences of 5 days and over parents must provide written medical evidence i.e a prescription or appointment letter. We will inform you, if your child's absence or lateness causes concern and will work with you to find a way of improving your child's attendance. If you would like to discuss your child’s attendance / punctuality or have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the attendance officer at the school via the above email address. Punctuality In responding to lateness, we will take into account individual circumstances in each case. It may be that late arrival stems from unavoidable circumstances, however, we will seek an early meeting with parents where lateness is an issue and circumstances will be discussed. Good Habits NSPCC Number DayNSPCC number day will take place in Primary and Middle School on Friday 2nd February 2018. Paper Planets! This week in Reception, we have continued our exploration of our Solar System, discovering more about our nearest neighbouring planets. Some of us have also been working together to make our own planets using Papier-mâché. We have gained lots of new knowledge about the rocky planets and the gas giants and would love to share with you some of the information we have learned. Kindness GardenDuring the Autumn Term Galaxy and Cohesion coaching group from Year 8 have created their very own kindness garden at School 21 and we need your unwanted toys and books to make it even more exciting and special for the children to use at School 21. If you have any unwanted toys or books, please drop them off at the School Office so we can add them to our Kindness Garden!! 🥀🥀🥀 There are no After School Clubs on:Wednesday 31st January - INSET day Medieval SocietyIn PBL this week we started our exciting new project about life in the Medieval times. We experienced what it was like to be in different levels in society, from royalty to peasants, and discussed how it felt to be in different tiers. We created a soundscape of a medieval town and described what it would have been like to live there using our senses. We also looked at why religion was so important to medieval society by examining different sources. We have been looking at time in maths by identifying how many hours in a day and how many minutes in an hour. We have looked at the 5 minute intervals in an hour and discussed whether we would use minutes or hours to measure different types of activities. Our teachers told us the exciting story of 'The Legend of Robin Hood' and we have mapped out the story, used these maps to step the story, passed the mic to tell it ourselves and finally we did a whole class story whoosh to act it out together. How can Year 1 make recycling rule?Year 1 have started a new project this week by introducing a dramatic hook in the classrooms. The children expertly sorted a range of materials, paper, plastic and cardboard. They then made observations around the school to see if there was any waste. They shockingly found there was! Attribute MascotsThis week was a special occasion at celebration assembly - we had a sneak peak at our new attribute mascots which will be officially launched on January 29th! Our mascots are Angel, Miruna, Iago, Kevin, Sameera, Xavi, Elijah, Javan, Zofia, Yasna, Meiji, William, Aayan, Brooklyn and Sylvie.
