On January 27th, Xenia will be a featured artist at the Ecstatic Music Festival in New York where she will she will team up with Adam Schatz’s Civil Engineering; a high-energy, 10-member multi-dimensional big band led by the multi-instrumentalist Schatz. They will be performing new arrangements of songs from Xenia’s acclaimed album Black Terry Cat, Schatz’s songs, and pieces by composers they love. The set will include the premiere of Xenia’s imaginative arrangement of “The Fight” from Prokofiev’s ballet, Rome & Juliet.
As the festival’s curator Judd Greenstein explains, “I had wanted to work with both Adam and Xenia separately, having been a fan both of Xenia’s latest record and Adam’s work with his band Landlady. Adam and I were discussing collaborative possibilities, and when he mentioned Xenia, it was one of the quickest ‘yes’-es I’ve ever had as a curator. This show is going to be a powerhouse, I can’t wait.”
Xenia will also join Tune-Yards for select dates this spring.
