Click here ROUND 16 | Sunday 3rd June 2018 The seniors made it 5 wins from 6 games on the weekend as we beat Brisbane Roar Youth 2-1 with a solo effort from captain Jamie Carroll in the dying seconds of the game. It had been a few weeks since we had played a game at home with a Sunday afternoon kick off bringing with it some warm conditions which slowed down the game from start to finish. Both teams started off brightly moving the ball well on the Barlow surface however it was us that had the majority of chances with Josh Taylor losing out to the Brisbane Roar GK with a couple of good chances. The Roar Youth team also had some chances later on in the first half with our debutant goalkeeper Pierce Clark pulling off a couple of superb saves to deny the visitors. The match was evenly poised as the teams went in to the sheds evenly locked at 0-0 at half time. A tactical shift in the second half saw us gain some momentum in play however the opposition scored from an excellently worked deep free kick finding Courtney unmarked to finish well. Our response was excellent as we raised the speed of our play and started to dominate the game. Eventually our hard work paid off as Josh Taylor finished emphatically at the near post to bring the scores level. It was looking like the game was going to end in a stalemate when Jamie Carroll popped up in the 92nd minute to slot the ball past the on rushing goalkeeper and give the Seniors another 3 points. Excellent debuts for Pierce Clark, Alex Sargent and Gianni Allebi brought an extra spark to the side and it is good to see them settling in so quickly. Our attention now turns to the Mackay game this weekend in what could put us in the National Round of 32 in the FFA Cup. Please come and give us your support. |
