There is a buzz of exhilaration amongst the students and staff. 2017 promises to again be a year of opportunities for academic and personal growth. Last week we invited all parents to attend the Parent Evening that will be an annual feature. The purpose of these evenings is to meet the student’s teachers and familiarise themselves with the many routines and expectations. There was a pleasing turn out but we would like to encourage all parents to avail themselves of this opportunity in future years. It is a wonderful way to link in immediately with your child’s teacher as we build a partnership together. There will be several opportunities to engage with the teachers throughout the year. We value the impact that strong collaboration and communication can have. At the start of the new academic year, I feel it appropriate to emphasise the importance of organisation as a key ingredient in achieving strong academic progress. Here are a few tips to use with your child:
Justin Krause Primary School NewsFrom the Head of Primary...We have had a great start to the year with our students exhibiting obvious enthusiasm for being back at school. Our new uniform looks amazing and I have been encouraged to see so many of our students already wearing it. Our new oval is taking shape and looking increasingly green. I am looking forward to working with you and your children this year and sharing in all the new and existing innovative learning programs that we have in our Primary School. This year we will be running a range of after school clubs on Wednesday afternoons as well as River Ranger Cadets for Year 5 and 6 students on Thursday afternoons. We have a new strings program for students in Pre-Primary and Year 1 and have re-launched our Year 5 and 6 Band Program. Information about the peripatetic program, including how to enrol, can be found on our website under the ‘Learning’ tab. Year 1 students proudly wearing their new uniform. Reminders
Stuart Harris Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten 2017 Welcome to Kindergarten 2017 Secondary School News From the Head of Secondary...I would like to welcome back all the Secondary students for the 2017 academic year. I always enjoy the anticipation and excitement of the first days in a new school year. I extend a special welcome to all of our new students and families joining the Secondary School for the first time. This can be a daunting experience but one in which we will continue to help you with as you transition into a different setting. I must comment on the way our students
have started the new year. From day one this year, I have seen students dedicating themselves to their studies and approach the new year with enthusiasm and a thirst for learning. A continuation with this approach will no doubt see our students learn many valuable lessons throughout the year which in turn should see them achieve their goals.
Jordan Smith Year 12 Charity Ball On the 24 January 2017, Ellenbrook Christian College held their annual Year 12 Charity Ball. The ball was held at Fraser’s restaurant in Kings Park. As the students arrived in limousines and party buses, they had the opportunity to have mocktails on the terrace (once hundreds of photos had been taken…), greet the teachers and executive staff. We entered the room, we could see the wonderful decorations and theme of the ball (Night Garden). At the start of the night a few speeches were made about how important is was to stay focused this year, but to enjoy the night! The ball was declared open! Entrée was served, photos began and conversations started. Once the main meal was served, the dance floor was opened and more than one person rushed for the floor! Once the dancing started, it did not stop, the DJ was great playing all our favourite hits. To our surprise (or delight and amusement) our teachers started busting out some dance moves, which was a great laugh and something to remember for our final assembly… Towards the end of the evening the Belle and Beau were announced, the respective winners were Victoria Nguyen and Jason Mahumot. The awards are given to students who display and uphold the schools values, presented themselves and socialised with everyone on the night. Next it was time for dessert (a highlight of the night) and a couple of slow dances. As the night came to an end, our charity donation was officially made. This year the cohort decided on donating the proceeds to The Children and Young People Disabilities Australia. As the night was over, everyone was in disbelief as someone said “I looked up and it was time to go.” Everyone enjoyed the evening; the waiters, food and venue were amazing and to top it all off everyone looked stunning! To start a challenging year off at an amazing event with truly genuine, kind and caring people will make it a lot easier and more enjoyable for all of us!
