The awards are presented annually at the Compass Teaching & Learning Conference Gala Dinner in Darwin, which this year will take place on Friday 30 August 2019. Award nominations close Thursday 25 July. Compass 2019 keynote speaker announcedSarah Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Purple House, has been announced as the first keynote speaker for the Compass Teaching and Learning Conference. Sarah has been helping the Indigenous directors to run the organisation since its inception more than 16 years ago. Sarah will share the story of the Purple House, from art auction to an organisation boasting dialysis services in 17 communities, traditional primary health care services, social enterprises, aged care and school nutrition. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Camp attendees experience the ancient culture of KakaduEach year, NTGPE's cultural educators host Cultural Immersion Camps designed to further Aboriginal cultural understanding. Participants are taught about Aboriginal culture, values, and relationships in a relaxed, open environment. This year the camps were co-hosted by Mandy Muir of Kakadu Billabong Safari Camp and were attended by medical students, GP registrars and partners from government as well as the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine. Trip highlights included cultural tours of sacred sites, visits to ancient rock art galleries, a damper cook-off and a delicious feast of kangaroo tail and magpie goose all in a beautiful setting on Kakadu National Park. Drs Vimbai Kapuya, Hubert van Doorn and Lina Zbaidi attended, with Lina presenting on the topic of work-based assessment. Hubert delivered a talk, entitled The Self Beyond Itself, as well as two three-minute lightning talks. Graham Emblen, Deputy Director of Education for GPTQ and former NTGPE Director of Training, joined Lina and Hubert in a workshop Facilitating Feedback and Feedforward in Adult Learners, which was well received.
