From the Principal...

The 2016 school year is almost underway. I would like to welcome all existing families back and trust that you have had a wonderful time with family and some rest over the summer break. To our new families, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Ellenbrook Christian College. I know that the dedicated teachers and support staff will do everything they can to make you feel welcome. Starting at a new school for students can always be a source of angst but rest assured that all will be done to make the transition as smooth as possible.

As the new Principal of Ellenbrook Christian College, I can somewhat relate to that feeling; so many unknown faces, trying to orientate oneself. Please do feel free to come and shake my hand and introduce yourself.

At Ellenbrook we strive to develop young men and women of character, who will see the value of service and seek to contribute to a better society. We recognize that all our students come to us with varying skills, strengths and abilities. Our role as educators is to inspire each student to strive to be the best they can be according to these strengths. The manifestation of this drive for personal excellence can be demonstrated in the way we present ourselves, the way we interact with others and the way we commit ourselves fully to excellence in every sphere of schoolwork. As a Christian school we believe that every good gift comes from God and we have a responsibility to make use of the talents that we have been entrusted with.

We want to celebrate the achievements of our students, so please share significant achievements with the school so that we can recognize them in the appropriate forum.

At the beginning of the year it is always a good idea to remind ourselves of some basic principles that set the foundations for strong and productive partnerships between school and families. We welcome open communication and our desire is to partner with you to offer the best opportunities for the students. We welcome parent involvement so be on the lookout for volunteer requests from teachers. If you are able to assist, we would welcome your contributions. If you have any queries, the classroom teacher for Junior School or pastoral care teacher for Senior School is always a good start. As you develop a strong rapport with your child’s teacher it is always good to keep them abreast of any issues that impact on their wellbeing or performance. Likewise, we will endeavour to keep you informed of any concerns or celebrations.

Staff have been hard at work over the break preparing for the return of the students and I know that they are as excited as I am to start the year. We welcome the following new staff to the school:

  • Mrs Rebecca Gibbons | Pre-Kindergarten | Term 1
  • Mrs Aimee Lange | Pre-Primary 1
  • Mr Sean Bradstreet | Class 1.2
  • Miss Suzanne (Zani) du Preez  | Class 5.2
  • Mrs Cecelia Selby | Mathematics
  • Mrs Louise Blooms | Director of Music
  •  Mr Stephen Hill | Acting Head of Arts
  • Mr Armand Joubert | Humanities
  • Mrs Michelle Ford | Humanities
  • Mr Reece Melvin | EA Learning Support

It also gives me great pleasure to congratulate Mr Darren Jacques who is serving as the Head of Senior School in an acting capacity until a permanent replacement for Mr Dusci has been announced.

I look forward to an excellent year of building strong relationships and serving the needs of our school community.
