We now have over 360 volunteer joining together at the end of July and a program that is jam packed with interactive workshop sessions, engaging guest speakers along with a number of social gatherings. A welcome email was sent to all attendees on Tuesday 2nd of July outlining key conference information, and we thank each and every club for supporting their membership to attend this key event. Strong NSW IRB Team Named For InterstateSurf Life Saving NSW is pleased to confirm the NSW team who will contest the 2018 Interstate IRB Championship at Thirroul Beach on Friday 13 July. The Interstate Championships which will be held during The Australian Championships is the premiere representative competition for Inflatable Rescue Boat Competitors. Grants For Volunteer Training ProjectsSurf Life Saving NSW’s volunteers put their lives on the line to patrol our beaches, saving the lives of locals, visitors and tourists. In addition to their hours spent patrolling our beaches, volunteer trainers and assessors spend an estimated 50,000 hours each year training new and current volunteers to ensure their clubs’ sustainability into the future. Nominations for the Education Advisory Committee and the Development Advisory CommitteeSLSA is now calling for nominations for the Education Advisory Committee and the Development Advisory Committee. Nominations must be submitted on the prescribed Expression of Interest Form found here be endorsed by the Nominee’s Club. If applying for more than one position, a separate application is required for each role. Nominations will be appointed by the respective Chair, Education and Development on 27 August 2018. Regional Sport and Active Recreation PlansThe Office of Sport is seeking input into the recently released nine Regional Sport and Active Recreation Plans across the state. The plans represent a new approach to collaboration, planning and delivery of sport and active recreation activities and infrastructure. They have been developed in collaboration with key stakeholders in each region, and follow on from consultation throughout 2017 and early 2018. Each plan provides recommendations for activities and strategies that could be implemented in each region to support grass roots to elite level sport. The strategies within each plan focus on outcomes that support improved participation, streamlined performance pathways, access to fit-for-purpose facilities, the delivery of valued sporting events and improved collaboration within the sector. The plans provide a list of possibilities which will be prioritised by each region’s Sport and Active Recreation Planning and Delivery Group over the next five years. Premier's Volunteer Recognition ProgramThe Premier's Volunteer Recognition Program recognises the contribution volunteers make towards our communities. Both adults and students are acknowledged under the program, with each nominee receiving a certificate recognising their individual efforts. The Premier launched the program in 2015, and since then more than 13,000 volunteers have been recognised across NSW under the program. The Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship and Mentoring Program 2019The Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship & Mentoring Program 2019 is a unique and valuable program for young Australian athletes. Applications are open to Australian junior athletes (under 21 years), with each of the give scholarships available consisting of the opportunity of a lifetime to draw on the experience and wisdom of The Sport Australia Hall of Fame Members for a 14 month period. More information is available on the SLSNSW website. Sydney Water Local Community GrantsThe Sydney Water Local Community Grants is now open and closes on Friday 27 July 2018. Grants of up to $1,000 are available to support grassroots community organisations in the areas of Sydney, Illawara and the Blue Mountains. The grant can be used for reusable water bottles, water refill stations, suitable equipment and/or training. Local Sporting ChampionsThe Local Sporting Champions program is an Australian Government initiative designed to provide financial assistance for young people aged 12-18 towards the cost of travel, accomodation, uniforms, or equipment when competing, coaching or officiating at an official national sporting organisation (NSO) endorsed State, National or International sporting championships or a School Sport Australia State or National championships.
