UCLA Law Celebrates 70th Commencement

The Class of 2021 went out in style with a star-studded, live-streamed ceremony that was highlighted by Rep. Ted Lieu's keynote and featured guests including UCLA and NBA legend Bill Walton and UCLA Law alumni Judge Paul Watford and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.

Whitney Brown

Brown '17 to Clerk on U.S. Supreme Court

UCLA Law alumna Whitney Brown will add to her impressive résumé — with clerkships on the Second Circuit, Ninth Circuit, and California Supreme Court — when she joins the chambers of Justice Sonia Sotomayor for the U.S. Supreme Court's 2021-22 term. She is the 20th UCLA Law graduate ever to clerk on the nation's highest court in Washington.

 We caught up with Brown to learn more.

The Williams Institute's 20th Anniversary Gala on June 9 will feature special guest Hillary Rodham Clinton, who will receive the inaugural International Impact Award. The event marks two decades of impact for LGBTQ people around the world. Val Ackerman ’85 is elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Jeffrey Prieto ’95 is nominated to be the general counsel of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Anthony Barron ’90 is promoted to head the litigation department at Nixon Peabody. Celeste Drake ’02 is named the inaugural Made in America Director at the Office of Management and Budget in the White House. Priscilla Ocen ’07 is appointed to the California state Committee on the Revision of the Penal Code. Anne-Sarah Skrebers LL.M. ’11 is made senior IP counsel at the European Broadcasting Union. Jon Mechanic LL.M. ’15 joins Rimon Law in Montreal as an associate. Greg Zipes ’91 publishes a biography of former Supreme Court justice and Michigan governor Frank Murphy. And Judge Kevin Brazile ’83 wins UCLA Alumni Award for Public Service.

Oh Receives Lowell Milken Chair in Law

Jason Oh, faculty co-director of the Lowell Milken Institute for Business Law and Policy, fresh off giving expert testimony before the House Ways and Means Committee, earned the appointment in recognition of his contributions to the study of tax law.
