Tim Vaughan Racing May 2021 Newsletter Dear All,
Due to various factors, we are likely to be down on horse numbers in 2021/22, but look forward to training winners with the horses that we have in the yard (albeit we will only have around 20 in for the summer) and we will look to purchase some new recruits this spring and summer ready for the autumn. Best wishes,
RECENT NEWSBells Of Peterboro has been a real model of consistency throughout his career to date and he added a second success of the season with a hard-fought win at Chepstow under Alan Johns. Stepping up to three miles for the first time, he stayed every yard of the trip and hopefully there is further improvement to come in the year ahead. It was great to see Colonial Empire win his bumper on debut at Exeter, the first of two winners in April for Steve Grys and Mick O'Boyle, who also own Bells Of Peterboro. We have had plenty of luck purchasing unraced cast-offs from flat yards and this son of Zoffany, picked up for 8,500gns at the Tattersalls July Sale last year, has a lovely middle-distance pedigree and had been showing up well in his work at home. Charlie Price gave him a good, patient ride and though Colonial Empire was a little green when coming under pressure, the penny soon dropped and he was going further clear at the line. We'll look for another bumper in the coming fortnight. I was delighted with the way in which Madera Mist (pictured below) travelled through the race at Cheltenham and when she hit the front after the second-last, it briefly looked as if she might record a second course win of the season. However, the eventual winner loomed large soon after and unfortunately Madera Mist was unable to keep tabs on him from the last. Still, it was another excellent effort and I feel there will be plenty more to come from her in 2021/22, with the 2m4f mares' handicap chase that she won at Cheltenham's December meeting the obvious target for the first part of the campaign. WELSH WHEELS SYNDICATE 2018 Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas and Welsh Rugby legend George North are joining forces to head up a hugely exciting new syndicate for 2021/22 and there is an opportunity for up to 12 people to share in the excitement of racehorse ownership with these two sporting icons. Membership of the syndicate includes a 1/12th share in four well-bred jumping prospects, all of them boasting pedigrees and physiques to suggest they can develop into high-class performers next season and beyond. SYNDICATE BENEFITS
COSTS A 1/12th share in the Welsh Wheels Partnership costs £11,500 upfront for the purchase of the four horses, followed by monthly payments of £650 for all-inclusive training fees, from 1st May 2021 to 31st October 2022. THE HORSES * DESIGNER DESTINY - A 114-rated maiden hurdler, she finished a fine second on her debut for us in March, with her conqueror winning his next three starts (now rated 138). Ready to run in May. * VOCAL DUKE - Just a five year old, he finished a fine third on his second start over hurdles in Ireland last autumn. A surefire winner over hurdles, he is also very well-handicapped on the flat and looks sure to win races in the season ahead. Ready to run in May. * WORKOUT - A four year old son of Great Pretender, his dam is a half-sister to Royal Shakespeare and he has looked a lovely type in his work at home. He is set to have a summer break but will be ready to make his debut in the autumn. * UNNAMED PRESENTING - An unnamed son of Presenting, this scopey individual is out of a full sister to black-type performers City Slicker and Carrigmartin. He looks a real chasing type and will start off in the autumn. There are eight shares remaining in the Welsh Wheels syndicate.
