Principal's MessageWow, what a busy time is ahead of us. Below are the key events happening over the coming weeks. Please mark these in your diaries and be sure to get along to the Book Fair which is on until Friday. There is a lot of illness around, there is the gastro bug, colds, etc going around. Last Friday we had a number of students away for a variety of reasons and whilst some had the gastro bug, not every child was away because of this. Illnesses like these are common for a school. If the illness gets to the stage where it is a bigger concern, we will be informed by the Ministry of Health. One of these is below and relates to the Measles epidemic. Please help us to develop self-management and resilience in your children. If they are late to school please sign them in at the office and then they can make their own way to class. The start of the day is a very busy time for teachers and we need to minimise disruptions for them at this time so they can address the things they need to. For this reason, we also ask that parents make their way out of the school when Nua Mai Ra starts playing. The school has been informed of some silly behaviour on the buses, especially the afternoon buses. It would be appreciated if parents can speak with their children about appropriate bus behaviour. Finally, below are the results of the Board of Trustees Election. Congratulations and thank you to those who put their names forward as parent trustees and to Rosalin Prangley who was returned unopposed as Staff Trustee. Have a great weekend, Kevin Bush Te Hihi School Board of Trustees’ ElectionDeclaration of Parent Election ResultsAt the close of nominations, as the number of valid nominations was equal to the number of vacancies required to be filled, I hereby declaer the following duly elected: Barry, Nicola Downing, Lachlan Fulton, Daniel Oxley, Peter Wilder, Warner Signed Wendy Carpenter Returning Officer Industrial Action - Teachers' Strike School Closed Wednesday 29 MayDear Parents/Guardians, Should the industrial action (strike) be called off before 29 May, the school will advise parents as soon as they are informed. The students walked the sculpture trail as part of our current PYP programme How We Express Ourselves with the central idea 'Sculptures as a way to express culture'. We focussed on sculpture placement within the environment, the resources used, and how the environment and the sculpture interacted with each other. Back at school we reflected on our focus and how the sculptor's intended message was communicated. Thank you to the parents who supported Rutherford to go on this valuable learning trip. Ice Skate TourIce Skating is coming to Te Hihi From June 5-8 we will have an ice skating rink in the school hall. This is a great opportunity to try ice-skating. A separate note will come out next week! As a special highlight, Mr. Curtin will be giving an ice-hockey demonstration and is donating a Canadian Ice Hockey jersey to be raffled off. Ag Day & Country Fair - Saturday 28th SeptemberThe FoTHS team are pleased to confirm the date of this year's renamed Ag Day & Country Fair. This is the biggest fundraising event of the year so we rely heavily on support from the school and local community to make it a success. Please save Saturday 28th September – it will be even bigger and better than last year! Animals this year will include lambs, goats and chickens – however calves will NOT be allowed under recommendation from Biosecurity NZ to help eliminate the spread of Mycoplasma bovis. In addition, we also plan to bring back some of the old fashioned activities and stalls to celebrate what makes us a uniquely rural school. If you would like to get involved with Ag Day, have a product or service that you chttp://tehihi.schooldocs.co.nz/index.htm?toc.htm?1893.htman donate, or just have some great ideas then please get in touch (Gina Beck 021 929 452).
