Student Achievement MeetingsStudent Achievement Meetings are being held on Tuesday 25 June and Wednesday 26 June. This year we will start these meetings at 2:30 p.m. so that we can provide enough time slots for all families to meet with their child's teacher over the two days. Buses will run at normal times. Please note: There is only 1 session available per child. This also applies for students whose parents have separated. To make your booking please go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz Enter event code m34ya then follow the instructions. This is a time to come along to meet with the teachers and discuss your child’s learning. We encourage you to make the effort to book a time, if you need help to book a time please contact the school office and we will book it for you. Bookings are now open. These will close on Tuesday 25 June at 12 o’clock noon. 2020 Programme of InquiryThe school is developing a vision for our curriculum to take us into the next decade. Parents are invited to give us feedback on topics the staff have put forward for our Programme of Inquiry. The Programme of Inquiry will be a two year cycle building on what the students have previously covered. As an example, within Cultural Identity in the transdiciplinary theme of Who We Are, in Year 1/2 the students would cover concepts linked to their family structure, in Year 3/4 they would cover concepts linked to the community, in Year 5/6 they would cover concepts linked to immigration and in Year 7/8 they would cover concepts linked to indigeniety. The survey link is here and will be open until the end of next week. We hope you take the time to complete this. TaylorOver the last term Taylor have been working hard to create self portraits using the collage technique linked to our inquiry key concepts of connection, perspective and change. We had to draw a picture of our face from a photograph that we had, and then select images in a magazine to collage our faces. We then selected colours from magazine images to create a background that reflected our personalities. Here are some of our creations. The preparations for this year’s Ag Day & Country Fair are well underway! For those new to the school, Ag Day provides students an opportunity to enter a lamb, chicken, or goat and participate in the Ag Day event. Students not rearing an animal will complete an inquiry set by the teachers. An information booklet will be sent home before the end of term which will give you more details about the day and raising animals. Chicken order forms will be coming home with your children. Chickens cost $8 each and the forms are due back on Wednesday July 3rd (chickens will be delivered after the holidays on Friday July 26th). If you are thinking of having a lamb or goat, they must be born between May 1st and July 31st. We also need your help over the coming weeks as we get closer to the event: 1. We are on the lookout for a dunk tank – the kind that you can dunk someone in! If anyone has access to one of these or can make one – please let us know! 2. We need help with organising the Farmers Market during the lead up to Ag Day. The Farmers Market sells plants and produce, and organisation includes liaising with growers and sponsors prior to the day. 3. We really want to run the Young Farmer of Te Hihi competition again as it was such a hit with all the kids. Willie has offered to help organise this again, but he needs some assistance. 4. With any event, we are on the lookout for sponsorship and businesses to donate prizes for our mystery envelopes and raffles. Let us know if you have ideas of businesses, we could approach so our team can contact them. Last year, we had several families donate items for our raffles which were very much appreciated. If anyone could donate a new wheelbarrow, we would love it! Any queries/questions, please contact Gina Beck on 021 929 452.
