January Afternoon Social Hour - Tues., Jan. 29 On the last Tuesday of each month, The FriendShip has been holding an afternoon social hour for members and volunteers to socialize and get to know one another. It's always a fun time to relax with FriendShip friends! Please join us this month on Tuesday, January 29 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the Parlor at St. John's. Light refreshments will be served. Please let us know by noon on Monday, January 28 if you plan to attend. We'll take some time to plan spring social hours so bring any ideas you have! Please note that the February afternoon social hour will take place on Tuesday, February 26 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Dutch Treat Lunch at Blue Marlin - Mon., Feb. 4 Come enjoy lunch with other FriendShip members and volunteers on Monday, February 4 at 11:30 a.m. at Blue Marlin, a popular restaurant in the downtown Vista neighborhood! The menu features "Low Country inspired" dishes, as well as foods with a Cajun and Creole influence. Carpools should meet at the St. John's parking lot at 11:00 a.m. RSVPs are needed no later than noon on Thursday, January 31. (Please note that, for this lunch, we will be seated in the main dining area, as there is not a private dining space available.) No City's By Accident: Learn What Urban Planners Do - Tues., Feb. 12 Come learn about a new topic--urban planning--from one of our newest volunteers! Urban planners develop civic plans and programs for the use of land. They use planning to create communities, accommodate growth, or revitalize physical facilities in towns, cities, counties, and metropolitan areas. In this way, they can have a long-term, though often behind-the-scenes, impact on their communities. FriendShip volunteer Jim Kimbler will draw from his own professional experiences as an urban planner in North Carolina and Florida to explain what urban planners do and how they help shape communities.
