FPQC, March of Dimes Big 5 Kick Off Florida Antenatal Steroids Pilot Project

On September 18, 2015 the FPQC launched a March of Dimes Big 5 State Perinatal Quality Collaborative one-year pilot project aimed at improving antenatal corticosteroid treatment (ACT) utilization. The goal is to reduce neonatal morbidity and mortality by reaching 100% administration to at-risk mothers 23-34 weeks gestational age within the optimal timing. Click here to read more...

Florida’s Hypertension in Pregnancy (HIP) Initiative Launched

On November 6, 2015, 33 Florida hospitals and 1 hospital from Colombia attended a meeting to kick off the HIP Initiative and Florida’s participation in the national AIM program. The focus of the Hypertension in Pregnancy (HIP) Initiative is to improve proper screening, diagnosis, and management of hypertensive disorders related to pregnancy. FPQC Presents State and County Fact Sheets at Florida Prematurity Summit

On November 10, 2015, Florida March of Dimes partners met to hold an inaugural Prematurity Summit. The summit explored the extent, risk factors and consequences of preterm birth in Florida and began to develop a long-term strategic plan with a statewide vision and partnership to identify and utilize evidence-based strategies to reduce the rates of preterm birth in Florida. Perinatal Indicators

The FPQC is inviting Florida delivery hospitals to participate in the new Perinatal Indicator System. Separate from the new initiatives on Hypertension in Pregnancy, Antenatal Steroids, and others offered, this new initiative is geared towards supporting hospital quality improvement efforts by providing hospital-specific quarterly reports of perinatal indicators and corresponding data quality reports.

Mother's Own Milk (MOM) Project

The aim of this initiative is to increase the number of very low birth weight infants in Florida who receive mothers own milk at NICU discharge by focusing on intent to provide breast milk, establishing and maintaining mothers' supply, and transitioning to the breast.

This project is still in planning mode; recruitment of Florida NICUs will be announced via FPQC e-mail in early 2016. Check back on the project site for more information.
