Waterlow Hall First Anniversary
27th January 2021

First Anniversary

Exactly a year ago, Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter joined our school assembly to help us open the new Waterlow Hall. One year on, we wanted to share with you some of the highlights of our first year and thank you again for your help in making this outstanding facility a reality.

We always planned to create a beautiful and versatile venue which would allow us to open our school to the broader community, to showcase our pupils' talents and adapt to suit the everyday needs of our school. We did not predict how important that versatility would be in 2020.  It has been a long year but, as I look back, I am amazed at how much has happened in the Waterlow Hall and how central it has become to the everyday life of the school. From breath-taking musical performances, ground-breaking drama and inspirational speeches to morning yoga, teambuilding, tech clubs and teaching, the hall is proving to be a truly flexible space. But perhaps the most pleasing and least anticipated aspect has been the importance of the audio and video technology incorporated in our two technical studios and the body of the hall - this has been critical in helping us to fill our year and, I hope, your homes with music, drama, and celebration regardless of lockdowns, bubbles and isolation.

As we look to our 150th Anniversary in 2026, we also look forward to throwing open the doors of our Waterlow Hall and welcoming you all back inside.

Our Next Challenge

The Waterlow Hall represents what can be achieved when the South Hampstead community joins together. It is the first project outlined in our strategic plan to be completed - and all proceeds generated by the hall in the future will be re-invested into our bursary funds. Your contributions to the Waterlow Hall Campaign have helped us to complete this wonderful facility and will create funding for bursaries into the future.  You can find out more about the next steps in South Hampstead's strategic plan and our bursary campaign here - please do contact development@shhs.gdst.net if you would like to get involved.
