NOTICES:

*Safety of our Students: It is important for the safety of our students and local residents that all parents who drive to school in the mornings and afternoons are adhering to the road rules.

We ask you all to consider the following:

- Do not speed on our surrounding roads as many families walk to and from school and this compromises their safety.
- Do not park on the zig zag lines at the front of the school as this impacts on our students safely crossing the road.
- Do not park across the driveways of our neighbours, as this will disrupt access to their private property.

As a school we suggest walking or catching public transport to school to where possible. If you have to drive, there is often ample parking spaces a little further away from the school, which may also alleviate the congestion and stress of the morning.  We thank you for your cooperation on this matter and your consideration of our local community.

**The 2018/2019 Academic Year begins on Monday 10th September 2018.

***Shoes and clothing donations please! If you have any shoes/plimsolls/wellies or tights and socks that your child has grown out of, please can you bring them along to the Reception classrooms. Thank you!

****Equipment - Parents please ensure your child comes into school with all the equipment and food they will need for the day.  The front office will not be responsible for taking things to classroom as this is disruptive to children's learning.

Reminder to Parents

- No bicycles or scooters are to be ridden in the school gates, this includes when coming to collect from after school clubs

- No climbing is permitted on the bicycle racks

Counting in Reception

This week in Reception we have been exploring how to count in groups of 2s, 5s and 10s. We have used a lot of different objects outside and tried to find patterns in the numbers.

Final Product

Year 1 are working on their final product for the end of term exhibition.  This week we have been editing letters, stories, comic strips and detailed drawings for a book all about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole.  The children have also created some quiz questions for you to complete, for example, Was Mary Seacole born in a) 1881 b) 1920 c) 1805.  The answer will be revealed shortly!

Felt faces

This Week Year 2 applied their sewing expertise to a new project. Each of us designed an animal face made out of felt, taking the time to carefully think about the features, materials and joining methods we want to use. After this we drew our outline and all of our features on the felt before carefully cutting them out. Once they were cut out we sewed on the larger features and glued on the smaller features.

Performance preparations

With the International Evening looming, the Year 3s have been hard at work preparing and advertising for the event. This week they sent mystery postcards from each of the three cities that they have studied, to round up what they have learned from the project so far. They also designed posters and tickets to entice people to attend the event. They needed to use craft for this, and ensure they used persuasion and design techniques to make effective posters. With such excellent posters, many people are sure to be persuaded!

Year 4 Find Shelter Outside

At the beginning of this week the children in Year 4 were looking at the question 'What protects me at night?' as part of the explorers project.  With Miss Sewell we learnt about shelters of the past, with Miss Coles we learnt about and had a go at building emergency shelters, and with Miss Fahie we looked at present day shelters that we could use. We had a great time learning about each of these and got stuck in having a go for ourselves- we hope tHe parents who came along enjoyed it too! We are now really excited for our camping trip next week!

Overdue Libary Books

If you have received a letter about overdue books and they have been lost, these can now be paid for via ParentPay.

Two of our Year 4 parents run arts company ZU-UK and they are doing an incredible project called Pick Me Up (& hold me tight). The project takes place in all of the UK's pay phones (all 34,000) ringing at the same time in memory of those that have taken their own lives. This will happen at 11am on the 1st January when there is a significant yearly spike. The subject is personal to them and a sensitive and ethically challenging one so they are raising money for a pilot in order for it to be as well thought out as possible.  Out of £15,000 needed 27% has been raised already but there are only 14 days remaining to raise the rest or the project won't happen.
