Our students have grown in so many ways: physically, academically, and spiritually. Our school provides so many opportunities for our students to grow from the curricular course work... January Spirit Night The Tradition Continues... The 41st OLV Preschool Thanksgiving Feast on Wednesday, November 20 was well attended by parents, grandparents, siblings and friends of our school’s youngest learners. Our 3-year-old and 4-year-old students performed a variety of sweet songs including the infamous “Turkey Tango”. After the performance, a feast catered by Christian Catering was enjoyed by all. Preschool teachers Tricia Carbonie and Jennifer Crain are touched by the support of volunteers who help run this special event and are always moved by the pride and joy seen in the faces of family members as they watch their little ones shine on stage. Eighth grade students display their Jacob Marely "class chain" they made after reading A Christmas Carol in Mr. Childers' Literature class. In the novella, the spirit Marley is tortured in the afterlife by wearing a chain he "forged" by his sins. The class wrote three things they wanted to change about themselves in the new year and together they forged it into one long chain! “I wear the chain I forged in life,” replied the Ghost. “I made it link by link, and yard by yard; I girded it on of my own free will, and of my own free will I wore it. Is its pattern strange to you?” UAB Spirit Day... SO Much Fun! The cafeteria was decked out in green and gold, cheerleaders were spreading cheer and the doughnut board brought a smile to everyone's face! All-in-all, UAB spirit day was a hit! Thank you to all those that bid on this item at last year's BALL; we had a great day! If UAB isn't your main team to cheer for, then you'll have your chance to switch things up for next year's spirit day at the BALL. Be on the lookout for YOUR team's table and make sure you put your bid in! January Virtue of the Month... The virtue for January is patience. The meaning of the virtue as it will be presented in lessons is, "Bearing present difficulties calmly". Here's what the focus will be by age group: Is Your Family Name Here? The first batch of bricks have been laid and they look beautiful! What a way to honor someone special! If you missed out on this run, no worries... we will be taking orders again in January for the second batch. Kelsi, daughter to our 4th grade teacher Judi Hobbs, is currently a Senior at Samford University and during the 2019 season, led the Southern Conference in both total kills (466) and kills per set (3.95). Kelsi also accounted for a team high 33 aces as well as 268 digs and 59 total blocks on the year. In addition to her regular season POY award, Kelsi also earned the SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors after leading the Bulldogs to the SoCon Tournament title and a trip the NCAA tournament where they unfortunately fell to the University of Louisville. For her efforts in the SoCon tournament Kelsi was named as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA Division 1 Player of the Week, a first in Samford Program history. Also, Kelsi was just named by the AVCA as All Southeastern Region Honorable Mention. Kelsi will leave Samford ranking fifth in program history in career kills with 1,341. Kelsi will graduate in the spring with a major in Sports Administration and Minor in Marketing and eventually hopes to work in sports marketing for a professional or collegiate team after her volleyball days are finished. She is considering going to graduate school at a school that has a beach volleyball program where the NCAA would allow her to play one more year, or possibly playing professionally overseas. We are proud to call Kelsi one of our own and excited that a volleyball career, started here at OLV has taken her so far! Way to go Kelsi! A FUN-PACKED FALL...
