ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - HOLD THE DATE!

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Monday, October 25th.   A call for directors will be sent out to members in September along with additional information regarding the AGM.   The meeting will be held via ZOOM and virtual login details will be emailed out to all members.

WE'RE ON THE MOVE

The Division needed additional office space to accommodate staff for the Primary Care Network.  We will be keeping our small office space in the Hospital in addition to our new location:  

2nd floor (unit #206) - 991 Alder Street

Move in date will be early September.

Seniors Wellness Working Group – PMH

The Division is looking for 3-5 physicians with an interest in seniors wellness who will attend one meeting approximately every 1-2 months over the next year.

The purpose of this group is to optimize the coordinated care for medically complex frail elderly and build upon the work that has already been done to date in this area.  If you are interested in participating or would like more details, please contact:  Jody Macdonald, Program Manager

 

REGIONAL ADVISORS & ADVOCATES

Doctors of BC has a team of Regional Advisors and Advocates (RAAs) who support physicians in the communities where you live and work.

They are your first point of contact to assist you in seeking services and support from Doctors of BC.    Poster  |   Additional Information

The attached LINK  provides a overview of the Roles and Responsibilities of  General Practice Supports Committee (GPSC), Specialist Services Committee (SSC) and Doctors of BC oversee roles to support physicians within Divisions and MSAs.   

Managing Your Practice

Doctors of BC provides information and resources to support members at every stage of practice – from start-up throughout the life of the practice.  You will find a range of products and programs to help make your practice successful, and to help develop your managerial skills.  

Key topics include: Doctors of BC fee guide, advice on billings and audits, training opportunities, and tips for starting up and closing practices.  Additional Information

 

 HDC Discover

Family doctors who have completed panel management are eligible for a new $1,000 GPSC payment if they enroll in HDC Discover and complete the orientation in the web based application. The payment supports family doctors to utilize the application to make data-informed quality improvements in their practices. HDC Discover is a is a physician-led web based application that supports quality improvement in primary care. As more physicians use the application, communities and family doctors will increasingly be able to conduct primary care network planning and make data-informed decisions on a local or regional level. This payment is the latest step the GPSC is taking to support family doctors and the care they offer to their patients. Visit the grants and payments page for more details on GPSC supports.

Excelleris Admission Notification Change in Content

On Sept 2, 2021, a change will be made to the Notice of Admission message that is sent to Primary Care Providers from Island Health when your patient is admitted as an Inpatient.  The notification message now includes details for community Providers on how to send Patient Summaries directly to Island Health’s EHR via EMR Connect.    Click Here to read more about the changes.   And a click Here to see the TEST admissions form.

EMERGENCY PLANNING ~ PHYSICIAN MEETING

Date:  Thursday, October 4, 2021
Time:  6:00pm to 9:00pm

Purpose of the meeting is to collect physicians input on:  
1)      Role of physicians in a community disaster
2)      Decision for local model for “walking wounded” – via a table top exercise facilitated by Shaun Koopman.

Addiction Care and Treatment Online Course

The Addiction Care and Treatment Online Course (ACTOC) is a comprehensive 22-module online course for health care providers that diagnose and treat patients with substance use disorders using evidence-based treatments along a continuum of care. Learners are awarded up to 15.0 Mainpro+/MOC Section 3 credits for completion of the Addiction Care and Treatment Online Certificate and up to 6.0 CNA credits for completion of the Substance Use and Addiction Nursing Certificate.

BC ECHO for Post-COVID-19 Recovery – Session 3
(September 14, 2021, 12-1pm)

Based on the global ECHO model, the BC ECHO for Post-COVID-19 Recovery is a free virtual learning community of specialists and community health care providers who use instructive and case-based learning to improve care for patients recovering from symptoms post COVID-19.

Each monthly ECHO session is an hour, and starts with a 30-minute presentation from specialists on participant-identified topics, followed by a case presentation submitted by any participant. Each session will wrap up with resources and recommendations. Sessions will be recorded and made available to all registered attendees.

The third session, “Top 10 Challenges Faced by Family Practitioners in Caring for the Post-COVID Patient and How to Navigate Them”, will be held on Tuesday, September 14 2021 at 12-1pm. GPSC Billing Webinar Series - Fall 2021

All family doctors are invited to join a six-part webinar series about billing GPSC fees that will focus on:

  • Increasing confidence when billing GPSC fees.
  • Better understanding appropriate billing.
  • Better understanding of fee rules.
  • Ensuring comprehensive billing for all services.

Pallium Canada’s Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care (LEAP)

This online course includes 16 self-directed and interactive online modules completed at your own pace (approximately 8 hours of work); 2 three-hour online webinars led by a LEAP facilitator where you will work through cases and discuss the online modules; and an electronic copy of the Pallium palliative pocketbook.  Through a generous bequest of one of our members, we have funding to subsidize the registration fees for those interested in this online course.

Upon completion of LEAP Core Online, learners should be able to:

  • promote and undertake advance care planning discussions
  • assess and manage pain; delirium; gastrointestinal symptoms, hydration, and nutrition; and dyspnea
  • recognize/diagnose depression, anxiety, and grief and initiate treatment plans
  • develop plans to address spiritual, religious, or psychosocial needs
  • initiate essential discussions related to palliative and end-of-life care in daily work
  • prepare patients and families for last days and hours
  • understand and apply the criteria to be met before initiating palliative sedation

This Group Learning program has been certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada for up to 24 Mainpro+ credits.   If you are interested in this online course, please reach out to Kilee Freedman with the BC College of Family Physicians.

The Fraser Northwest Division is excited to share our physician-led campaign to increase Covid-19 vaccine confidence in our communities. Physician On A Mission is a series of videos in English, Cantonese, Korean, Farsi, and Arabic that address different areas of vaccine hesitancy.
