Milwaukee Roots is a 6-week community conversation series. Open to all - Join us!

Examine Milwaukee’s rich, but often problematic, history alongside local historians, community activists, and community experts. We will explore issues of voting rights, housing, student activism, unheard voices and the rich diversity and culture of our neighborhoods.

As our city and nation respond to two pandemics, systemic racism and COVID-19, join CURTO, the March on Milwaukee 50th Anniversary Committee, Burke Scholars, the Service Learning Program, and the Center for Community Service in digging deeper.

Each week, participants will watch a one-hour video (at your convenience) and gather in small groups to engage on the issues and stories from the weekly video. Participants may choose from in-person or virtual dialogue groups.

Dialogues will be facilitated by passionate MU graduate students and alumni. Join us! Open to all!

Registration Deadline: Friday, September 25th
Milwaukee Roots Kickoff: Wednesday, September 30th @ 6-7:30 PM. Facilitated by Dr. Robert Smith, Harry G. John Endowed Professor, Associate Professor of History at Marquette (recorded for those who can't attend).
Weekly: Participants will choose a weekly one-hour discussion group after registration confirmation.
Program Closing: Friday, November 20th at Noon

Co-sponsored by Marquette’s Center for Urban Research, Teaching and Outreach (CURTO), The Center for Community Service, The Burke Scholars, and the Service Learning Program.
