Introducing our registrar liaison officers for 2019

Our Registrar Liaison Officers (RLOs) are current NTGPE GP registrars who provide advocacy services, support, advice and information to their fellow GP registrars. RLOs are a vital link in communication between GP registrars and NTGPE, delivering feedback on training, and influencing change to policies and operations. Here are your RLOs for 2019:

Dr Jeffrey Sia

Jeffrey grew up in Malaysia before moving to Australia to complete medical school at Newcastle University. He then moved to the NT to start RACGP training with the NTGPE and is now working at Danila Dilba as a GPT 3 registrar. Prior to GP training, he spent time as a psychiatry registrar and also spent time in medical administration running a healthcare tech company.

Dr Simone Liddy

Simone was born and raised in Darwin. She completed a pharmacy degree before studying medicine. Simone is a GPT3, currently working at Pandanus Medical NT. She has a special interest in Indigenous health.

To get in touch with Jeffrey or Simone, contact rlo@ntgpe.org.

Cultural Immersion Camps

Each year NTGPE hosts a series of four-day Cultural Immersion Camps where participants are taught about Aboriginal culture, values and relationships in a relaxed, open environment. Camps are led by the NTGPE’s cultural educators and traditional owners of the lands where the camps are held.

Cultural Immersion Camps are available to all GP registrars who have not attended the camp before, and NTGPE is delighted to extend support for salary and travel expenses. In 2019, the camps will be held in June at the Billabong Safari Camp, Kakadu National Park.

To apply for a place, contact gemina.corpus@ntgpe.org or 08 8946 7079.

GP registrar orientation support for training posts

Providing a fulsome orientation for new GP registrars is key to a successful placement with your training post. In acknowledgment of this commitment, NTGPE has developed a support package to assist training posts with providing the time to supervisors, clinic staff and GP registrars to engage in a more comprehensive training post orientation for GPT/PRRT1 GP registrars.

This initiative was developed after receiving feedback from GP registrars, supervisors and training posts. It will be trialled for the 2019 training year and we will again seek feedback towards the end of the trial period.

Training posts with GPT/PRRT1s in 2019.1 received an email earlier this month detailing the support offered. Please contact supervisor@ntgpe.org with any questions or head to our website for more information.
