Click here 7 June 2018Mayor Vaccari meets with Minister for PlanningMayor Vaccari and Deputy Mayor Hall recently met with the Minister for Planning and Housing to discuss Strathfield residents’ concerns about over-development in their local areas. The Minister praised the Council for having in place a robust set of planning instruments, which he said should already protect the local character of Strathfield from inappropriate developments in the R2 Residential Zones, and has agreed to ask his Department to review and delay the introduction of the Low Medium Density Housing Code in Council’s R3 Residential Zones. Parramatta Road Corridor UpdateThe State Government has announced upgrades to the Parramatta Road corridor, with Homebush benefiting from upgrades to cycle and pedestrian access around Powell’s Creek Reserve, as well as improvements to Station Street and the entrance to Homebush Station. Drain Debris RemovalCouncil is currently carrying out its roadside drain clearing program. Debris is removed and the pits are washed clean to ensure stormwater makes its way off the road and into the drain network without obstruction and litter. Little Bang Discovery ClubDo you have a curious pre-schooler who would like to discover new things? The Little Bang Discovery Club is well under way with 3 more sessions for them to enjoy. Bark Huts Amenities BuildingNow that the Bark Huts playground has been completed, works are now underway for an amenities building to service the needs of the local sporting community. The amenities building will feature a café and kitchen, toilets and change rooms. Throwback Thursday133 Years of Strathfield CouncilLast Saturday, 2 June marked the 133rd anniversary of Strathfield Council’s incorporation in 1885. In 1890 the reported “area of the municipality is estimated at 1,280 acres with 19 miles of streets. The population, at the date of the incorporation was estimated at 550, living in 130 houses.” Since this time, the Strathfield LGA has dramatically changed and is now home to 43,585 people on 3,432.3 acres of land.
