Steve Anderson Retail Instincts Propel Investor to Venture Capitalism’s Top Tier - NY TimesKirsten Green had only dabbled in investing in start-ups before she began a venture capital fund in 2012. What she had instead was years of experience covering the retail business as an analyst on Wall Street. So Ms. Green, 45, parlayed that retail knowledge into her venture capital endeavors and used it to bring specialized advice to her companies. In one of her first moves as a venture capitalist, she was part of a $1 million investment into Dollar Shave Club, then a tiny company, which sells razors to consumers online. Later, she invested in Jet.com, an e-commerce start-up that was vocal about wanting to take on Amazon. Last year, both those start-ups hit the jackpot: Unilever bought Dollar Shave Club for $1 billion, while Walmart purchased Jet.com for $3.3 billion. For Ms. Green, that translated into a bonanza of returns. Steve Case: Future innovation is outside of Silicon ValleyAOL founder Steve Case's investment firm Revolution has logged 6,000 miles to visit 26 cities in "fly-over" country between the booming coastal states. These cities—like Omaha, Minneapolis, Des Moines and Detroit— also happen to be home to a lot of Trump voters who feel left behind by today's economy. Last week, Case announced he hired Hillbilly Elegy author J.D. Vance to focus on seed investments in midwestern startups for Revolution. This week, Case is bringing entrepreneurs from underserved regions to a Washington summit to make the case for more investment there and also to show policymakers the job-creating potential in these untapped markets. So we as a society don’t ever have to choose life OR work, but rather being able to do both well.” This colleague isn’t a parent, nor is he planning to have kids anytime soon. Yet he still felt adamantly about the importance of gender parity and acknowledging that it’s everyone’s responsibility. 7 Top VC's Say These Communication Skills Will Set You ApartOTC Exchange Network Joins the Chamber of Digital CommerceOTC Exchange Network ("OTCXN"), an institutional trading network and infrastructure provider utilizing blockchain technologies, is now a member of the world’s leading trade association representing the blockchain industry. |
