The Great Orion Nebula (M42) imaged by Mike Geisel and posted to the BINTEL Society Facebook Group. Mike used a Celestron RASA 8 telescope on a Sky-Watcher EQ8 mount, a ZWO ASI533MC camera and an Antlia Quad band filter.

Last pick up for click and collect orders at BINTEL is 1.00pm on Christmas Eve.
All click and collect orders are ready for pickup within 30 minutes for in-stock items.
These are the last possible dates to have your BINTEL orders in to ensure delivery by Christmas as advised by Australia Post. Your orders - either online or over the phone - need to be placed by 12pm Sydney time to make sure our BINTEL elves have enough time to pack and get them out the door.

The Sun is getting more active as it heads toward Solar Maximum. Sunspots are more frequent and it's a fantastic time to observe the Sun providing you have the right gear to view it safely.
The Thousand Oaks Solar filter S-9187 is in stock now.
This filter would suit 8" SCT telescopes such as a Celestron 8SE or Evolution 8, 8" solid tube Dobsonian telescopes and 8" truss or collapsible Dobsonian telescopes with a lightproof shroud to avoid stray sunlight entering the telescope tube.

Speaking of looking at the Sun.....
We recently had a customer who was under the false impression that a set of eclipse glasses would allow him to observe the Sun through a telescope. He had problems finding the Sun in the sky with his telescope - mainly because he was wearing eclipses glasses - but came close and stopped once he smelled the smoke coming from the telescope eyepiece.
He would have likely suffered a shocking eye injury if he'd focussed the telescope directly on the Sun and observed it even for only a brief moment - the eclipse glasses wouldn't have made the slightest difference.
A timely reminder that you can safely observe the Sun providing you have a proper Solar filter securely attached to the front of your telescope

Quick reminder of when we're open - BINTEL Opening Hours over the Christmas/New Year break.
The BINTEL showroom in Glebe and in-person phone and support services are open normal hours throughout December Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 5.30am as well as Saturday from 9.30am to 4.00pm.
BINTEL is also open on Sunday, Christmas Eve – 24th of December 2023 – from 9.30am to 2.00pm.
We’re closed only on the NSW Public Holidays:
- Monday 25th December – Christmas Day – closed
- Tuesday 26h December – Box Day – closed
- Monday 1st January 2024 – New Years Day – closed

BINTEL Space and Astronomy 2023 wrap - What was your favourite happening?
2023 has been a BIG year in space and astronomy!
During the break between Christmas and New Year we'll be compiling our "top hits" of 2023.
Was it some of the stunning images and discoveries by the JWST as it moved from testing to fully operational space telescope?
Elon Musk's SpaceX managed to get the massive Starship, the largest rocket ever built by humans, (briefly) off the ground - TWICE! There's been some incredible new astronomical products launched in 2023.
Let us know your thoughts on what the big events were for 2023 and we'll throw them into the mix for our 2023 end of year wrap up that we'll including in the final BINTEL newsletter for 2023.
