Apeel Sciences Inc., a Goleta, Calif.-based agtech startup tackling food waste, scored $250 million in new funding, giving the company a $1 billion valuation. GIC led the round, which included participation from Viking Global Investors, Upfront Ventures, Tao Capital Partners, Rock Creek Group and others.
insitro Inc., a South San Francisco, Calif. software-based drug-discovery platform, raised $143 million in Series B funding led by Andreessen Horowitz. New investors including Canada Pension Plan Investment Board were joined in the round by existing backers ARCH Venture Partners, Foresite Capital, GV, Third Rock Ventures, Two Sigma Ventures and Alexandria Venture Investments. Vijay Pande, general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, joined the company’s board.
Commonwealth Fusion Systems LLC, a Cambridge, Mass.-based developer of technology for building low-cost fusion power plants, picked up $84 million in Series A2 funding led by Temasek. New investors Equinor and Devonshire Investors also contributed to the round, along with previous backers Breakthrough Energy Ventures, The Engine, ENI Next, Future Ventures, Hostplus, Khosla Ventures, Moore Strategic Ventures, Safar Partners, Schooner Capital, Starlight Ventures and others.
Scandit AG, a Zurich-based provider of mobile barcode scanning services for smartphones, tablets and wearable devices, secured $80 million in Series C financing. G2VP led the round, with participation from Atomico, GV, Kreos, NGP Capital, Salesforce Ventures and Swisscom Ventures.
Aircall, a Paris-based maker of cloud-based call center software, completed a $65 million Series C round led by DTCP. New investors Swisscom Ventures and Adams Street Partners also contributed to the funding, alongside existing backers including eFounders, Draper Esprit, Balderton Capital and NextWorld.
Bluecore, a New York-based ecommerce marketing technology provider, closed a $50 million Series D round. Georgian Partners led the investment, which included contributions from FirstMark Capital and Norwest Venture Partners.
DefinedCrowd, a Seattle-based provider of training data for AI systems, landed $50.5 million in Series B financing. Existing backers Evolution Equity Partners, Kibo Ventures, Portugal Ventures, Bynd Venture Capital, EDP Ventures and IronFire Ventures were joined by new investors Semapa Next and Hermes GPE in the round.
Medwing, a German job matching and career consulting provider for healthcare workers, closed a €28 million ($30.7 million) Series B round. Cathay Innovation led the investment, with participation from Northzone, Cherry Ventures and Atlantic Labs.
Oncology Analytics Inc., an Atlanta-based startup that helps health plans keep up with the rapid pace of change in cancer care, nabbed $28 million in Series C funding. Baird Capital led the round, with support from existing investors Oak HC/FT, McKesson Ventures and Blue Venture Fund. Michael Liang, a partner at Baird, joined the board.
CalciMedica Inc., a San Diego-based startup working on a drug to treat patients with Covid-19 pneumonia requiring oxygen therapy, snagged $15 million in Series C funding. Valence Life Sciences led the round, with participation from Bering Capital, Mesa Verde Venture Partners and Sanderling Ventures.
Enview, a San Francisco-based provider of 3D geospatial data analytics to the energy industry, fetched $12 million in new funding from investors including Statkraft Ventures, BrightCap Ventures, Ahoy Capital and Crosslink Capital.
Datch, a Los Angeles-based provider of an intelligent voice assistant for industry, was seeded with a $3.2 million investment. Blue Bear Capital led the round and was joined by Stage Venture Partners, Tuhua Ventures, Lorimer Ventures, Predictive Venture Partners and Plug and Play Ventures.
