Headteacher: Mr Oli de Botton Middle School NewsletterTo our Middle School Community,I am amazed that just like that we have reached the end of the school year with the final 5 days counting down this week. It has been a year full of firsts; the first year with a complete middle school, the first year School 21 as a 4-18 school is officially full, the first cohort of Year 6 students, the first year for our Middle School team to work together and my first year being a Head of School. I want to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful community for their engagement and support through the year. Through lots of amazing successes and challenges that have helped us to grow and develop, our students and their families have remained the drive and focus for all that we do. I wish you and your family a restful, safe and happy summer break and look forward to welcoming you back in September. Our whole team is very excited for the new year working with you to keep writing our #middlestrong story. There has been a technical hitch, but please expect these to be sent home via email and post in the next day or so. Please also keep an eye out for letters which will give you information for next year regarding who your child's home teacher will be, which class they will be in and which room. 100% Attendance and Punctuality Winners (Summer Term)Year 5: Year 6: Year 7: Year 8: Some Sad Goodbyes! The middle school will be saying a fond farewell to four of our core team members at the end of this week: Ms Barron, Ms Kenshole, Ms Akinsanmi and Mr Starkey. Ms Barron is (sort of!) leaving us to do some work abroad, but will be back to work with us to develop our English curriculum next year as well. She has been such a positive force at School 21, bringing the power and joy of Storytelling to primary and to middle school as well over her 5 years with us. We wish her all the best on her adventures and are very glad to be saying 'see you soon' rather than a goodbye. Ms Kenshole is leaving us to take a leadership post in another school where she will work supporting vulnerable students to reach their full potential. We thank her for her bravery this year moving from secondary to Year 5, her dedication, deep thinking and support of our wonderful students and all the work she has done across the school in her 2 years with us to drive English. We will miss her and hope her new school is fantastic! Mr Starkey is heading off on a move to Brighton and will soon be marrying our very own Ms Cross in primary! The 'Starcross' pair are relocating where Mr Starkey will work in Year 6 at his new school. We thank him for his work in Middle School and wish him success and all the best with his move, new school and wedding! Ms Akinsanmi is leaving us to have her first baby, due in September. We thank her for her hard work this year supporting across Year 5 and Year 6 and wish her the best for the arrival of her little person. We can't wait to meet the little one! Year 6 Residential & Trips Week The event lots of Year 6 students had been waiting for arrived last week with the residential happening in Whitemead Forest, near Gloucester. The week was packed with activities, good food, friendship and team work as the children tried their hand at crate stacking, canoeing the the pool, archery, field zorbing, tree climbing and swimming to name but a few. Photos from the residential will be collated and shared with parents of students who attended before the end of the week. Meanwhile, the students back at school went on a jam-packed week of trips including Kidzania, the cinema, Hackney City Farm and the Natural History Museum. It was a fantastic way to end the year and all students really stepped up and demonstrated our values and commitments. End of Year Picnic in the Park When school finishes for the summer on Friday 19th July at 1:00pm, why not join a group of parents with a picnic to let the children play the afternoon away and say bye to school friends for the summer? Exhibition Early Finish & Update A reminder that with Exhibition happening this week on Thursday, there is a 1pm finish on this day to prepare for the event which will start at 4:30pm. We offer supervision for students who need to stay at school until the normal time of 3:15pm. A letter has been sent home, and another copy is available here if you need it. Please return these to your child's teacher or coach. Students involved in the exhibition will receive a timetable or notification from their class teachers about when they are required and what they will be doing. All students are welcomed and encouraged to attend to talk about their learning over the term. Please be advised that students not conducting themselves professionally will be asked to leave and parents contacted. We look forward to seeing everyone at this special event! A note as well that bringing along some money will be useful as Year 5 are selling their Highway Man books and Year 6 are running market stalls with snacks, games and items to purchase as well! Above and Beyond Out and About As well as being models of our School 21 commitments, it could be argued that our last group of Above and Beyond winners are also some of the most patient students at our school! It has been so busy that their trip has been delayed until today! We all enjoyed a hot chocolate and a chat about how they make our school a great place. Congratulations to Hannah, Radostina, Arjun, Ahron, Michael, Laila, Ariyan, Mellina, Zainab, Martin, Makda and Rafid for being selected. Annual Awards Letters should have arrived to students who are nominated for an Annual Award this year. Students who have consistently gone above and beyond in our different curriculum areas of 'Head', 'Heart' and 'Hand' will be recognised. We will also have a major award of Student of the Year. Winners will be announced and presented with trophies at our ceremony on the last day of term, 9am on the 19th July! Letters will be sent home to nominees this week! Recognition last week Our recognition boards were filled with names again last week.
